When my husband and I go to Europe, will it be better to join a tour group or to travel on our own? I believe that there are pros and cons to both. If we join a tour group, then we don't need to worry about our itenerary, about us getting lost, no more stress in planning the whole trip. If we travel on our own, we will save (since it will be cheaper if we research well) and we can have more time in the places that we like. So that's our dilemma. Tucan travel.com/budget expeditions, Europe tour group...? I am thinking of taking the 'classic Europe' trip for 21 days/20 nights. They have a 20% late special for the May departure, so the trip is $1056, & around $678 'local fund' (USD). It's primarily camping, most meals included. OPtional excursions and entrance to many activities not. I am still debating whether I can do this trip cheaper on my own(eurorail youth pass, hostels/camping & more freedom) or play it more safe with a group since I would be on my own. However,I heard the group tours use bus as main transportation tool,that is slow and uncomfortable. Why are single people who travel with a tour company charged an extra fee? I had planned to take a trip to the western part of USA with a travel group and was told I would have to pay $600.00 extra if I went as a single person. Why am I being charged such a fee? If I checked into a Hotel by myself the hotel does not charge me double so I don't buy the extra fee due to accomodations. I truly feel it is because travel companies think single travelers will not spend as much as couples thus they feel they are losing money and tax single people. What do you think? I enjoy traveling alone and should be able to do so w/o going broke.

I have wanted to go to Africa, specifically Sierra Leone, for a while now, and have considered going alone, since I don't really have anyone to go with. I have studied the culture and heir struggles, and have decided to go there myself. But what would better, is if I could go and actually help. I know there has been so much devistation, and they are just beginning to rebuild, and I would love to do anything I cold to help. I read about a few mission groups throu "World Vision" or things like that, where you pay around $3,000 to go and be part of a tour group, but I am looking for something that will REALLY allow me to help as much as possible. I don't have any previous humanitarian experience, but I can't imagine that there's nothing I can do. Does anyone know anyway I can help, with a group or something when I do go down there? Where can I find boat rentals to travel to the smaller islands in the Bahamas? Not Tour Groups? My family of 4 will be going to Atlantis in the Bahamas.
