Princess Cruises to Alaska - Favorite Ship?? I've read a lot of postings about cruises to Alaska, and it seems to be that Princess is the favored cruise line...but which ship? There are a few options during the dates I have available, and I'm not sure which I'd be more pleased with. Just two of us...both female...but not wanting a "singles" experience...just need a vacation! Want to see some oceanlife...whales, dolphins, seals, etc. Neither of us have cruised before. Help?! Also...if I'm on a ship over the 4th of July...do they do fireworks off the ship or anything fun? Thanks!
I'm looking for specific answers about Alaska cruises.? How important is it to stay in an window cabin cabin vs an inside cabin. How much time do you spend in the cabin? Are the beds comfortable? Is it worth the extra $? I am looking into a train trip and I would like someone to comment on that aspect of the cruise. I do have borchures from several cruislines but I'd like to hear from those who actually took the cruise and the train tours. My daughter lives in Vancouver so hotel and transportation info is not needed.
What do I need to know about cruises? (Alaska)? Never been on a cruise. Kinda scares me. Are the rooms small? What do we pay for - options/ upgrades/packages that are worth it? What do you do on cruises? How much should it cost? How much should I bring with me and my husband?
Who would be a better cruise line to take to Alaska, Royal Caribbean or Princess Cruises? My Grandmother, Sister and I are going to Alaska and I am wanting to know who would be a better cruise line to take. My Grandmother has taken a cruise to Australia with Princess Cruises, and she loved the service and food. So we are considering going with them, but the also have alot of older people there, and they aren't as kid friendly as Royal Caribbean is. Does Royal Caribbean have good food and service like Princess. Also I love Photography and Videography, so if any of you have tips or ideas of places to see or do, Please let me know

Alaska cruise/vacation with senior citizens and teenagers? We're planning to go on a cruise to Alaska in June/July with 14 and 17 year olds kids and 75 year old grandparents. Grandfather will have trouble if there is too much walking. We are looking at the Holland America Line. Not sure how that compares with other lines. We'd like to go inland to Denali if possible, but not sure if that would be too hard or too much extra time. Any info on if there are a number of teenagers that go on these cruises? Any personal experiences you can share?
14 year old on an Alaska Cruise...? So I am 14 years old and I'm going on an Alaska Cruise this summer with my whole family (we are 13 people). We are going to be 7 days on the boat and I think 3-4 days on land. So here is the thing. I don't really like the Kids and Teen Service things that resorts and cruises offer so I was wondering what will I be able to do? and Am I going to be able to walk around the boat alone or do I have to be accompanied by an adult? Also are there movie theaters on cruises?

Alaska Cruise out of Seattle? So I'm trying to book a 6-8 day cruise cruise out of Seattle to Alaska for a group of six people (4 people ages 20-25, and 2 people ages 49-52) just had a few questions (currently working with different travel agents for options but just wanted to get more opinions): 1) suggested cruise line for our budget (around 2,000 per person) and age group..any cruise lines that may have family suites that could possibly hold all six (rather than just 4)? 2) What's the best area of alaska to cruise if we want to see glaciers, whales, etc...(i.e. inside passage?) 3) How will the weather be in the first week of July as opposed to the first week of August? 4) Any must do's / must sees on an alaska cruise? 5) for those who did this cruise and had a balcony, i heard most people don't use them at all, because it's pretty cold..is that true? (I live in Seattle so i'm used to Seattle weather). 6) any additional info, recommendations, questions?

Alaska cruise 2007? My parents let me in on my Christmas present a little bit early this year, and told me that they are sending the whole family on a cruise to Alaska next summer of 2007. I'm not sure which cruise line or anything yet, but was wondering if any of you have ever been, and if so, what cities you would recommend I shouldn't miss, what excursions I shouldn't miss, etc. I already plan on hiking a glacier, doing the sled dog thing, but other than that, i'm pretty clueless on what Alaska has to offer. I'm not really into the nature scene, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!
Alaska Cruise for Singles? I'm going on my first Alaska cruise this July. It's also my first singles cruise. Any advise? What to bring, what to see, who generally takes these trips.
Alaska Cruise Shore Excursions? So my family finally booked our Alaska cruise July 28-Aug 4th. As first time cruisers, we're extremely excited. Ages of the group: 20, 21, 23, 28, 53, and 55. Everyone in normal athletic shape (so if the hiking is light, it should be an option). Anyway, given our stops, what would be definite must do for port excursions? and what is the best way to reserve them? via cruise line, third party excursion company itself, or just go out to the port and hit up an excursion day of without reservation? is it bad to do more than one excursion in one day? ~G

Alaska Cruise, inside cabin, or do I spring for a view? I'm planning on a Alaska cruise this summer. I've heard that your only in the cabin to sleep, shower and change clothes. And that you can enjoy the views of Alaska from the decks of the ship. So is it worth the money to spring for a cabin with a window or balcony? Or do I save some money and go for a inside cabin? Wow, lots of great answers. This gives me something to research and to think about. Thanks to all who responded. I will take your comments into conserderation. wldt, with recommendation of going to cruisecritic.com gets the top nod for best answer. It was a tough decision to vote who gave the best answer, however, I found this web site helpfull!

Alaska cruise with no set meal schedule or assigned meal seating? Does anyone know which cruiseline (destination Alaska) that doesn't tell you when to eat and where to eat? It's annoying to follow any set schedules, so i'm looking for a cruise with "restaurants" that do not operate under any set schedule (or assigned seats for that matter). Thanks!

Is there an alaska cruise that does not touch/stop-in Canada? I want to take an Alaska cruise with my family, but if the ship stops at a Canadian port, I will need to get a visitor visa for Canada. I don't want to go through that hassle. Is there a 5-7 day Alaska cruise that does not stop at Canada/British Columbia? Thanks!
What should I expect on cruise to Alaska - Holland America? We are 1st time cruisers. We are taking Holland America's Alaska cruise from Seattle in mid-Sept. 2006 aboard its "Zaandam" ship. We are taking 2 senior citizen couples with us. Will they have things to do? What do the staterooms look like? We have 3 Oceanview rooms. What can you tell me about food options - we are all vegetarians? What is included in the price we paid? Are spa services and fitness center use included or is there separate charges? What should we take with us for clothing? Will I have motion sickness? How to prevent/treat that? Any advice/info you can give me will be really helpful.
How strict is the drinking age on cruises? So i'm going on an Alaska Cruise with my family in July-August time frame. I understand that on most cruise ships the drinking age is 21. Everyone except for one person is older than 21 in my party (my little brother is 20). We are from a place where the drinking age is 18+, so we're quite used to having the entire family out for social drinks. Just curious if anyone was able to bend these rules on cruise lines, primarily the Princess and/or Holland America cruise line.
Alaska Cruise and land tour- Is it better to book separate tours? Any suggestions on who to deal with? We are thinking Princess Cruise followed with a 4 or 5 day land tour but are wondering if booking a separate land tour would be better than the cruise ship offers. We're also looking for a great deal, money-wise. I'd like to fish the last day and bring fish home to the San Francisco bay area.
Do you think I would get seasick on an Alaska cruise? What about on the excursions? I'm not terribly prone to seasickness, but I have been known to get pretty green in a smaller boat on choppy waters. I'm told the big cruise ships with stablizers don't even feel like they're moving, so I'm not too worried about that part; but I hope to go on side trips to see whales and sea otters. Has anyone done this, and do folks tend to get seasick on them?
What is the best Luxury Alaska Cruise? I'm looking to go in August, and I want the best experience possible for 3 17 year olds and 2 adults. There are no issues with price so this is just the best cruise line period.
What shore excursion not to miss on a Alaska Cruise? Celebrity Infinity 7N Alaska inside passage roundtrip Vancouver cruise - Which shore excursion should I not miss : Best of Alaska Package (2hrs - all 3 ports at once?), Juneau Alaskan Whale Watch or Helicopter & dogsled Adventure (3.5 hrs). If I select more than one; can the timing for both excursions be met as both are in Juneau? Is Heli ride safe? Will I see whales on the cruise without taking the s.excursions?
