I would LOVE to do some traveling during my "break," but I have no idea where to start! I have never traveled overseas before and I am looking for tips/suggestions on how to get the most for my money. Ideally, I would like to go for about 3 weeks and I would really like to go to Italy. What are the best web sites to look at? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Advice on discount cards for hostels/travel in Australia? Whats the best discount card for hostel accomodation? I'm travelling to Thailand and Australia in a few weeks and have been advised to get a discount card, but there are so many out there, which ones actually work, I don't want to pay money for something that hardly anybody accepts. I'm not a student, but I am under 25, and will require a card for hostels and travel. Any suggestions?
Need some advise on Rail Travel as a Uni Student...? Im planning on travelling from Lincoln Central to Norwich by train, every weekend 3 weeks in a row. I am planning on getting a young persons rail card to save a bit of money, but I would like some advise what people think is the best way to go about this, because a lot of my student loan is eaten by this travel so im eager to spend as little money as possible, and for anyone who says dont travel so often - well thats not an option for me! Travelling by coach isnt viable for me as its a long journey and i'd like to read or set my laptop up and i get travel sick on busses cars and coaches looking down lol. If anyone knows of any better discount cards, or websites to buy tickets this would also be very helpful! Thanks! xx
What is the cheapest way to get to Italy? I am a poor college student! I have a friend doing a semester abroad and I want to go visit him for spring break. I have been to a lot of travel websites and student discount travel websites. Direct flights are way to expensive, so I need a cheap flight to Europe, then a rail pass to get to Italy. What do you recommend? I am planning on going in March. I have found tickets for as cheap as $550 USD on student travel discount sites. I go to school in the Southwest US. I can travel the El Paso, Denver, or Las Vegas pretty easily.
How much of a discount do you get with a travel agent? This June, a group of students and I are planning to fly to Russia from Washington DC. I've been looking at ticket prices online, and they are quite expensive (about $2200 to the city where we will be going). I've heard that it is usually much cheaper to get international tickets through a travel agent. What percentage of discount could we expect? Thanks!
Discounts for Travel on Amtrak? My husband, 2 children, and I are wanting to take Amtrak in May when we move, but the tickets are over 1000.00. Does anyone know of any other promotional codes or discounts to use other then AAA and student discounts? My family and I would greatly appreciate it.
University Checklist - Help Needed!? Does anyone have a checklist of things to buy for first-year undergraduate students at university? I will be living at home so things such as an iron or kettle will not be necessary. Advice on books, writing utilities, materials etc, will be great, as would whether it is essential to apply to services such as student banking, discount travel cards etc. Thanks in advance. A list of some sort would be great. I am a new student so want to get the essentials ready before I start. Also digital voice recorder any use of a waste of time?

Travel around London? I will be in London from the US for a week this month. I plan mostly on site seeing (which I presume would be zone 1). I am a 30 year old student with my university ID. What is the best option for me in terms of a weekly ticket to purchase. I saw terms like oyster, travel card etc. and am totally confused. Also do I need a special ID to avail student discount?
I am a full time ODP student (same as nursing students) who pays £70 pounds a week commuting to london.? I recieve an NHS bursary. They tell me I can only claim travel expenses if the hospital I train at is further away from the uni, and I would only be able to claim for the difference. British rail tell me I cannot get a student discount on weekly season tickets. A young persons travecard doesn't discount on season tickets or tickets at peak times. Is there anybody or any organization that could help me with travel costs. Many thanks. I didn't mean individuals!
How much does it cost to travel in Australia? I know it depends, so I'll provide general details. I just want the gist... the general price range. -I'm at student so I can get discounts -I'll be staying in cheap hostels -Traveling to Sydney & Melbourne for around 2 weeks -Don't eat a lot -Would renting a car be cheaper than traveling by bus? I've never been to Australia, I've no idea how much I'll have to walk to get places in Sydney and Melbourne. This is all without the ticket price. But if you can, please also give an estimate of roundtrip tickets (including student discount) from NY to Sydney in December. Thanks!

What's the best way to do some world traveling? I am thinking of heading off to Oz in January for the Aussie Open and then from there going to New Zealand and Thailand for a couple of weeks each as well, and maybe hitting up a couple other places. I was just wondering what the best way is to organize flights and visas, yet leave room for flexibility in my itinerary? I'm still fairly young (26) and might be able to qualify for some youth discounts, although not student discounts. I plan on traveling by myself and staying in budget accomodation along the way. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks! p.s. I know certain European nations have different advantages and disadvantages regarding visas and flights that Americans don't so please keep that in mind when responding. Thanks!
How can I save money on a flight from Phoenix to Europe? I am a student planning to study in Albania for a few weeks in the summer. I know there are websites that provide a comparison of prices as well as STA travel which does give supposedly discounted student prices. I am looking for additional websites as well as possible coupon deals, bargain purchase times, gimmicks...ANYTHING so that I can afford this. Thanks a ton!!!! :)

math: word problem..help pls..? You are organizing a three-day back-country ski trip to Roger’s Pass for students in an outdoor club at St. Mary's College. You have approached two local busing companies for group cost information. The companies have presented you with their cost proposals for round-trip group travel: Company A: $55 per person for a group of up to 40 students Company B: $60 per person for a group of up to 25 students, with a discounted rate of $45 per person for each additional person in larger group size of between 25 and 40. Let x denote the number of students who are considering participating in this trip. Let the function A(x) represent the total cost of the trip with company A and let B(x) represent the total cost of the trip with company B. a)Determine the algebraic formulas for A(x) and B(x) for a domain of [0, 40]. b)For what value of x (number of students traveling) is the total cost the same for both companies?

I know students/OAPs etc can get rail cards, but Im not a student, Im 28, not on benefits etc. I dont wanna take the bus cos it takes too long. Foreign Exchange to Western Europe? Hey guys. I'm a college student who wants to go to Belgium-Netherlands for exchange next year. I've heard it is insanely fun there. BUT I do have a couple questions because of some of the things I've heard. How expensive would it be to live there and do some discount traveling? Would a college budget be enough for some out of the world clubbing? I've heard a lot of Europeans have this complex, esp in Germany, that they treat you by ur skin color first no matter where ur're actually from etc...I'm East Asian btw. OH haha, and are chicks there more into asian guys than in North America?
What's the best way to see the world in 21 days? (Via Oz)? Going to Cairns in Oz for a wedding in October. Can anyone suggest the best way to use around 21 days - to see some other contries (not just airports!!). And the best travel firm / package / ticket to use - we are unfortunately 30 years to late to get Student discount and too young for pensioners discount!!
Some advice on what to do after 16? I really would like some help here. In the future I would like to either do something in medicine or accounting/finance, but here's my options for September. 1 - Stay on at 6th Form in my local school, which is quite a good school, although there aren't a lot of social activities etc. 2- Study accounting 4 days a week at a college about 3 miles from me. The college seems like an OK although not brilliant college, I would have to take a bus/train journey of about 15mins there every day. 3- Study an apprenticeship in accounting (although I haven't applied for this) it is an option, and I would be paid, but some of the money would be spent on travel costs, lunch etc. as I would get no student discounts 4- Apply for a college about 8 miles from me, to do A Levels. I've heard it's a good college with good facilities, clubs, guidance etc. and the journey can be done on public transport. What do you think? Also about the college 8 miles away my parents say I may have trouble making friends as a lot of people will come from that local area or travel from the bordering counties (a bit like me) and won't want to travel more at weekends etc.
Looking for a website that offers discounts on vacations.? If anyone knows any special websites that contain discounts for students-this will help me out greatly. Want to Backpack thru Europe. Advice? I'd like to backpack thru Europe sometime this year. I have no idea where to begin. Are there any groups I can sign up with, to at least start out the trip together? I've heard it's best to go it alone? Is this true? Any general advise is much appreciated. How much does it really cost, how long do u suggest staying, how best to travel, etc. Also, I'm 26 now so don't qualify for student discounts anymore. Thanks. thanks for all your great answers! i think i'm going to do it alone and for at least 2 - 3 weeks.
Which way of transportation would you recommend in Germany? Hey how you doing guys! I have been planning all around, and finally got my tickets. I'm gonna be spending one weeks in Germany and take another week to fool around Paris and some cool places in Italy. However I was wondering which would be the best way to get around this places. I know Easyjet is cheap and "EASY" too I know travel by train is cool because you can sleep on it. I have no idea about the buses out there.....???? Concerning about the trains. Which system would you recommend the most? 2nd or 1st Class? Which one is the cheapest? Do you know about any student discounts? Let me know.... Thank you and advance for any of your answers and best regards from Chihuahua Mexico Sorry. When I said which one is the cheapest? I was referring to which way of transportation is the Cheapest?
Is there a "layaway" plan available for airline tickets? I want to travel to Japan in December but can't afford to pay for an airline ticket all at once? Do any of the major airlines offer a layaway plan or is there a reputable website that can do this? Like orbitz? Or is there someplace that offers student discounts?
Cheap Air and Hotel Rates? I'm planning a trip to Honolulu, HI, for early to mid- January. It's been difficult for me because I have no previous traveling experience (i.e., never flown, never covered such a long distance! *I live in NJ*). All of my search results online have been similar, plus I don't have anything in the way of student discount or frequent flier mile privileges. Does anyone have any helpful references, information, or experiences they can share with me? All suggestions are appreciated.
i'm going to koln (13-15 june 2006). where shall i go? i will be travelling with a friend and we'll be on a quite-tight budget travel plan. i think we will mostly walk or take a bus/train everywhere. need suggestions on this. - i'm struggling to find the most coherent german (koln, in particular) tourism website, with clear map, ticket fares to main attractions, transport information, and a little bit explanation about various attraction places. but i kept finding them in language i couldn't even understand. any idea, friends? - does german offer a discount for students? any concession ticket?
Traveling in Germany? I'm flying to Munich in a few weeks. I'll be working there for about a month, and I was hoping to travel around a bit on the weekends - namely, to Prague and Zurich. But rail prices seem very expensive, and I'm a broke graduate student. Is there anyway I can get a discount on the train? Or is there a cheaper way to travel? Thanks for any advice. Thanks for the links! Unfortunately, I'm 27. But I'll look into airlines.

We DO NOT want a Eurail pass that costs $300 bucks for 4 countries or however many there are. We just want a one way ticket from Paris to Basel. We are not European residents either, in case you know of discounted prices for Europeans. Right now the cheapest we found is about $100. The best answer will go to however finds the cheapest route. I'm a college student and I want to travel the world with spending as little money as possible, but how? I want to see the world, visit places like Israel, India, Bangkok, London, etc., you know, like the typical naive American girl that I am. However, a problem arises...money. Actually getting to the countries is an issue, with some flights reaching over 15 grand...are there any resources that offer college students, like myself, discounts on flights for next to nothing? I have no problem working or volunteering in some of the countries if that could help me.

Shinkansen or travel discount ticket for student living in Japan? My family is coming here next year to visit me, they are bringing their JR rail pass and I have to guide them because they know little Japanese. Searching for fares of shinkansen I got shocked because this trip will cost me a LOT of money if I go with them. I have checked the buses and trains (they are more cheap but from example going in shinkansen to Tokyo-Kyoto is around 2 hrs, and in train is 8 hrs.) Have anyone living here found some discount tickets or can give me an advice of how can I go with them in their trip. Thank you in advance.

18+ student oyster card question - travel cards? I have an 18+ student oyster card which gives a small discount when buying travel cards (not single oyster fares) and I bought a 7 day all zones (1-6) travel card as I am planning going into London every day next week. I have just been told by my mum that you can't use oyster travel cards on trains! Is this true? She said you can only use pre-pay single fares.. If so it's going to take me like 2 hours to get into London on buses! Thank you for any help!
