What was the best nature-adventure vacation that you've ever been on? I'm a college student and am planning on embarking on an adventure-not just a vacation. I hope to do something daring. I've already traveled abroad alone, been to boot camp, and frequently go camping with family, so I need something that really tops it all. These are the best years of my life!!! Has anyone won a "free" vacation from C & B Getaways? We were offered a free vacation if we would visit a new travel agency and listen to the services it had to give. It was not a new travel agency, but Supreme Adventures out of Surprise, AZ offering discount travel services for a down payment, monthly rate, yearly rate, and the "free" vacation had so many restrictions and service fees it would be risky to take the vacation. Looking for affordable college vacation? My boyfriend and I want to go somewhere during Labor Day weekend and the week following. I'm thinking a beach vaca in the Atlantic would be risky (hurricane season), but I'm clueless about where else to go... We're both pretty cheap (read: broke students) and have no idea what cities would be nice to visit around this time of year. Best vacation spot for first vacation? What's the best place to take a person on their first vacation? Somewhere hot in April. Adventure with some relaxing honeymoon in late October / Early November? I am planning on going on my honeymoon late October/early November. We would like a combination of relaxing (warm/beach) and adventure (anything that is moderately difficult). We are not so interested in some tourist activities (i.e. looking at buildings in Europe). We are concerned about areas that would be vulnerable to hurricanes during that time. We would like to spend at most $2,000USD/person. We have about 1 week's worth of vacation time to spend. We are traveling from the Washington, DC area. Why do people think its "weird" not to want kids??? I recently made a eu.3,000 bet with my mother that I will never have kids and because she doesn’t believe that I’ll keep the bet and multiply someday, and neither does anyone else, my friends ask me "oh why don’t you want kids?!?! they're sweet and cute and its just normal to have them!" I myself (do not hate) but strongly dislike kids, I’ve been thinking about it a lot and how much I rather have exotic, travel-full adventures to see the whole world, like the ancient ruins of machu-pichu in Peru, and the great wall of china, and mountain climbing the Transylvanian alps, before god ends my life instead of at going to some boring job, coming home to feed some three-four little kids, changing them, cleaning them, and going to sleep. day in and day out. But why is it so “strange” not to want to go through the pain of hours of labour, only to come home and not have any time for your husband or yourself? Plus kids cost so much, its not even funny. From paying hospital bills to paying college tuition and everything in between. Instead of owning a small condo in some beautiful European city for 2 people and using all the extra money for vacation travels, you have to get some house in the suburbs to raise kids, pay for school, pay child insurance and college ect. International Vacation Ideas for a Family of 5 with 3 Teenagers? Every year my mom plans a horribly boring vacation to a theme park in the US. We've been to Disneyworld, Disneyland, Multiple Six-Flags, Cedar Point, Seaword, and the list goes on and on. My mom isn't exactly the must cultured person which is why she plans such generic family vacations. New Family NEEDING a vacation badly!! There is a budget tho..? Me and my hubby are new parents, our lil one is 8 months old and she will be turning 1 in May. Since we were pregnant and going to have a baby last year, we didn't take a vacation. Where should I go on my honeymoon? I will be leaving on Sept. 14 or 15 from Louisville, KY. Florida Vacation spots : Senior citizen perspective? Hello All, I desperately need your help in coming up with vacations spots in Florida. You see I will be travelling with my parents and my wife for the first time to florida. I do not have any clue about the parks / tourist spots there. More over my parents are not really interested in rides and water sports. So I guess Universal's Island Of Adventures wont be a great hit. I am not sure if the rides in Disney world are very scary that they cannot be sustained by old age people. What about Busch garderns? Is it really worth seeing? I am coming from Atlanta and they have already seen aquarium here and in Tennesse so I dont know if Water world would provide them something very different. I was even thinking of driving along the Key west. What can we do in Keys? Are there some sight seeing places there? Any thoughts/ suggestions would really help. In MGM can we see real sets/ studios in which they film movies /shows? My dad is really interested in those. Also what is the most economic way of buying tickets for these shows? AAA / local buyers/ Any special credit cards / Coupons / Costco etc? Also would 3 days be enough to cover to Disney, MGM and a couple of shows? Travel tips/tricks, things to do in Puerto Vallarta in June? We are taking our first honest to goodness family vacation - myself (mid 30's), my mother (mid 50's), and my daughter (16) in June. We decided on Puerto Vallarta as our location and will be staying at the Marriott CasaManga. Any tips/tricks would be greatly appreciated as we've never been to Mexico before (though we live in So. cancun or costa rica in July? I am planning to take my Mom for a nice vacation (kinda Mother/daughter thing). The timeframe is July 1-18th. I am currently thinking between Cancun or Costa Rica. We are not the type of people who would be happy just spending this whole time at one resort, wetbars and spas. Ideally I'd love to combine a few days on the beach/snorkeling etc with some adventure tours - see Mayan ruins, or going on nature tours. Since I am travelling with Mom, adventure has to be safe :) Neither of us has ever being to Mexico or Costa Rica, so any advice will be useful. The biggest concern is rainy season/hurricane season, and also what to do. In Cancun -with day trips to Mayan ruins, horse riding, cenotes, etc - is there enought to do for 18 days? What is the lesson of this story? David Pradarelli Assalam-aleikum wa rahmatullah! I came to Islam pretty much on my own. I was born and raised Roman Catholic, but I always had a deep fascination with the spiritualities of other cultures. My Journey started when I desired to have a relationship with my creator. I wanted to find my spirituality, and not the one I was born with. I spent some time in the Catholic religious order known as the Franciscans. I had many friends and I enjoyed prayer times, but it just seemed to relaxed in its faith, and there was, in my opinion, too much arrogance and hypocrisy. When I had returned back from the order into secular living again, I once again was searching for my way to reach God (Allah). One night I was watching the news on television, and of course they were continuing their one-sided half-truth reports on Muslims (always in a negative light instead of balancing it by showing the positive side as well) with images of violence and terrorism. I decided long ago that the news media has no morals whatsoever and will trash anyone for that "juicy story", and I pretty much refused to believe anything they said. I decided to research Islam for myself and draw my own conclusions. What I found paled all the negative images that the satanic media spewed forth. I found a religion deep in love and spiritual truth, and constant God-mindfullness. What may be fanatacism to one person may be devotion to another. I picked up a small paperback Qur'an and began devouring everything I could. It opened my eyes to the wonder and mercy of ALLAH, and I found the fascination growing every day...it was all I could think about. No other religion including Catholicism impacted me in such a powerful way...I actually found myself in God-awareness 24 hours a day 7 days a week...each time I went to my five daily prayers, I went with anticipation...finally! What I have been searching for all of my life. I finally got enough courage to go to a mosque and profess the Shahadah before my Muslm brothers and sisters. I now am a practicing Muslim and I thank ALLAH for leading me to this place: Ashhahdu anna la ilaha ilallah wa Muhammadur rasul ALLAH! Time passed, I graduated and started working. Earned some money and moved to my own apartment, and found a wonderful tool in the PC. I became a passionate amateur photographer, and enrolled in activities around that. At one time I was documenting a marketplace, taking snapshots from a distance with my telelens when an angry looking immigrant came over and explained that he would make sure I wasn't going to take any more pictures of his mum and sisters. Strange people those Muslims... More things related to Islam happened that I can't explain why I did what I did. I can't recall the reason I called the "Islamic information organisation" in Sweden, ordering a subscription to their newsletter, buying Yosuf Ali's Qur'an and a very good book on Islam called Islam - our faith. I just did! I read almost all of the Qur'an, and found it to be both beautiful and logical, but still, God had no place in my heart. One year later, whilst out on a patch of land called "pretty island" (it really is) taking autumn-color pictures, I was overwhelmed by a fantastic feeling. I felt as if I were a tiny piece of something greater, a tooth on a gear in God's great gearbox called the universe. It was wonderful! I had never ever felt like this before, totally relaxed, yet bursting with energy, and above all, total awareness of god wherever I turned my eyes. I don't know how long I stayed in this ecstatic state, but eventually it ended and I drove home, seemingly unaffected, but what I had experienced left uneraseable marks in my mind. At this time Microsoft brought Windows-95 to the market with the biggest marketing blitz known to the computer industry. Part of the package was the on-line service The Microsoft Network. And keen to know what is was I got myself an account on the MSN. I soon found that the Islam BBS were the most interesting part of the MSN, and that's where I found Shahida. Shahida is a American woman, who like me has converted to Islam. Our chemistry worked right away, and she became the best pen-friend I have ever had. Our e-mail correspondence will go down in history: the fact that my mailbox grew to something like 3 megabytes over the first 6 months tells its own tale. She and I discussed a lot about Islam and faith in god in general, and what she wrote made sense to me. Shahida had an angels patience with my slow thinking and my silly questions, but she never gave up the hope in me. Just listen to your heart and you'll find the truth she said. And I found the truth in myself sooner than I'd expected. On the way home from work, in the bus with most of the people around me asleep, and myself adoring the sunset, painting the beautifully dispersed clouds with pink and orange colours, all the parts came together, how God can rule our life, yet we're not robots. How I could depend on physics and chemistry and still believe and see Gods work. It was wonderful, a few minutes of total understanding and peace. I so long for a moment like this to happen again! And it did, one morning I woke up, clear as a bell, and the first thought that ran through my brain was how grateful to God I were that he made me wake up to another day full of opportunities. It was so natural, like I had been doing every day of my life! After these experiences I couldn't no longer deny God's existence. But after 25 years of denying God it was no easy task to admit his existence and accept faith. But good things kept happening to me, I spent some time in the US, and at this time I started praying, testing and feeling, learning to focus on God and to listen to what my heart said. It all ended in a nice weekend in New York, of which I had worried a lot, but it turned out to be a success, most of all, I finally got to meet Shahida! At this point there was no return, I just didn't know it yet. But God kept leading me, I read some more, and finally got the courage to call the nearest Mosque and ask for a meeting with some Muslims. With trembling legs I drove to the mosque, which I had passed many times before, but never dared to stop and visit. I met the nicest people there, and I was given some more reading material, and made plans to come and visit the brothers in their home. What they said, and the answers they gave all made sense. Islam became a major part of my life, I started praying regularly, and I went to my first Jumma prayer. It was wonderful, I sneaked in, and sat in the back, not understanding a word the imam was saying, but still enjoying the service. After the khutba we all came together forming lines, and made the two 'rakaas'. It was yet one of the wonderful experiences I have had on my journey to Islam. The sincerity of 200 men fully devoted to just one thing, to praise God, felt great! Slowly my mind started to agree with my heart, I started to picture myself as a Muslim, but could I really convert to Islam? I had left the Swedish state-church earlier, just in case, but to pray 5 times a day? to stop eating pork? Could I really do that? And what about my family and friends? I recalled what Br. Omar told me, how his family tried to get him admitted to an asylum when he converted. Could I really do this? By this time the Internet wave had swept my country, and I too had hooked up with the infobahn. And "out there" were tons of information about Islam. I think I collected just about every web page with the word Islam anywhere in the text, and learned a lot. But what really made a change was a text I found in Great Britain, a story of a newly converted woman with feelings exactly like mine. 12 hours is the name of the text. When I had read that story, and wept the tears out of my eyes I realized that there were no turning back anymore, I couldn't resist Islam any longer. Summer vacation started, and I had made my mind up. I had to become a Muslim! But after all, the start of the summer had been very cold, and if my first week without work was different, I wouldn't lose a day of sunshine by not being on the beach. On the TV the weatherman painted a big sun right on top of my part of the country. OK then, some other day... The next morning; a steel grey sky, with ice-cold gusts of wind outside my bedroom window. It was like God had decided my time was up, I could wait no longer. I had the required bath, and dressed in clean clothes, jumped in my car and drove the 1 hour drive to the mosque. In the Mosque I approached the brothers with my wish, and after dhuhr prayer the Imam and some brothers witnessed me say the Shahada. Alhamdulillah! And to my great relief all my family and friends have taken my conversion very well, they have all accepted it, I won't say they were thrilled, but absolutely no hard feelings. They can't understand all the things I do. Like praying 5 times a day on specific times, or not eating pork meat. They think this is strange foreign customs that will die out with time, but I'll prove them wrong. InshaAllah! Abd al-Hayy Moore I became a Muslim when it seemed I had already accepted Islam in my bones, as if beyond choice, and I only had to make a leap to embrace it formally. Outwardly I was content; inwardly I was coasting. My three-year-old theatre company was disbanded after a hilariously chaotic production for a Tim Leary Benefit at the Family Dog in San Francisco, circa '68 -- naturally the orange juice everyone had passed around was spiked, so that chorus members were doing the final scene in the first ten minutes -- and for six months I had been methodically typing out poetry manuscripts in my attic in Berkeley preparatory to a big publishing peak. I considered myself a Zen Buddhist. But I was other things as well. My normal routine was to get up, sit zazen, smoke a joint, do half an hour of yoga, then read the "Mathnawi" of Rumi, the long mystical poem of that great Persian Sufi of the thirteenth century. Then I met the man who was to be my guide to our teacher in Morocco, Shaykh Muhammad ibn al-Habib, may Allah be pleased with him. At first the meeting was simply remarkable, and my guide simply a remarkable man. But soon our encounter was to become extraordinary, leading to a revolution in my life from which I have never recovered and never hope to. The man looked like an eccentric Englishman. He too had only recently come out of the English version of the Hippie Wave. He was older, refined in his manners, spectacularly witty and intellectual, but of that kind prevalent then who had hobnobbed with the Beatles and knew the Tantric Art collection of Brian Jones firsthand. He had been on all the classic drug quests -- peyote in the Yucatan, mescaline with Laura Huxley -- but with the kif quest in Morocco he had stumbled on Islam and then the Sufis, and the game was up. A profound change had taken place in his life that went far beyond the psychedelic experience. For the three days following our meeting, two other Americans and I listened in awe as this magnificent storyteller unfolded the picture of Islam, of the perfection of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, of the Sufis of Morocco, and of the 100-year-old plus Shaykh, sitting under a great fig tree in a garden with his disciples singing praises of Allah. It was everything I'd always dreamed of. It was poetry come alive. It was the visionary experience made part of daily life, with the Prophet a perfectly balanced master of wisdom and simplicity, an historically accessible Buddha, with a mixture of the earthiness of Moses, the otherworldliness of Jesus, and a light all his own. The prophetic knowledge our guide talked about was a kind of spiritual existentialism. It was a matter of how you enter a room, which foot you entered with, that you sipped water but gulped milk, that you said, "Bismillah" (In the Name of Allah) before eating or drinking, and "Al-hamdulillah" (Praise be to Allah) afterwards, and so on. But rather than seeing this as a burden of hundreds of "how-to's," it was more like what the LSD experience taught us, that there is a "right" way to do things that has, if you will, a cosmic resonance. It is a constant awareness of courtesy to the Creator and His creation that itself ensures and almost visionary intensity. It is hard to put forward any kind of explanation of Islam, to try to suggest the beauty of its totality, through the medium of words. The light of Islam, since it is transformational and alchemical in nature, almost always comes via a human messenger who is a transmitter of the picture by his very being. Face to face with our guide, what struck us most was his impeccable, noble behavior. He seemed to be living what he was saying. Finally the moment came, as a surprise, when he confronted me with my life. "Well," he said one morning after three full days of rapturous agreement that what he was bringing to us was the best thing we'd ever heard, "What do you think? Do you want to become a Muslim?" I hedged. "It's the most beautiful thing I've heard about so far. After all my Zen Buddhism, all my yoga, Tibetan Buddhism and Hindu gurus, this is certainly it! But I think I would like to travel a little, see the world, go to Afghanistan (then unoccupied), maybe meet my Shaykh in a mountain village far off somewhere." "That's not good enough. You have to decide now. Yes or no. If it's yes, then we start on a great adventure. If it's no, then no blame, I've done my duty. I'll just say goodbye and go on my way. But you have to decide now. Should I go or should I stay? Round the world travelling...? I have been dreaming of travelling the world for a long time now. I want to enjoy the cultures, history, landscapes of so many different places. I feel bored and trapped in my life right now, and I need this adventure, culture and experience. I know I will have more opportunity to do this now while I am under 30 than I will later, and know I will regret not doing it. I have no kids, no family nearby and not really any close friends. I don't own a house. And I don't have huge career opportunities here. What I will be leaving behind is: a wonderful fiance;a comfortable job with great hours, lots of vacation time, a pension I'm almost vested 100% in & 401k match, and decent pay for what I do. What's really holding me back though is: about $30K in debt between student loans and credit cards; only around $1000 in savings; a very weak dollar; and an expired passport. I know I can't have instant gratification, but I need to do this soon. What's your take on my situation?

What to do in the Englewood, Florida area? My wife and I are travelling to Englewood, Florida May 1-8, 2008 for a vacation. What is there to do in that area? I'd like to see a race if possible (car or motorcycle) and I like outdoor/adventure type activities. I'm willing to drive about 3 hours one way max. Don't suggest Disney World....that's not for me. How do I deal with being labeled as a Nasty Mother in law.? I am the so called nasty mother-in-law. I first met my future daugther in law. We took them all on a exotic vacation. I was very excited my son (24) had met someone, he had been hurt in a previous relationship. I am trying to be unbias in this response. They were told to pay airfare and their own spending money and we would take care of everything else. It was our 25th anniversary. (With our other son and his girlfriend they saved to pay airfare and spending money they are high school kids) At the last minute, we had to pay their airfare or risk losing the cost of the vacation, then they came with only 50.00, charged every thing to our cabin even a present for us. That was not a good start. It got worse, we tried to help them get started loaning them money, and when they came to the house they took food. Which is ok we dont want them to starve. Then when I was on business travel they came again and took other things. My son took her student loans in her name cause she could not get them in her name, so she went to college and he worked. She could not get a part time job due to the fact she was carring a 12 hour credit load. My husband and I went through college working fulltime and going to school fulltime so we were a little put out at this. I think the last straw was when I found out I didnt have cancer but they had to remove an ovary (I am 45) and she stated "why dont you just have it all cut out". From one woman to another that was mean. I am a bit of a pain in the ass to my son, I want him to finish college he has less than a year and she made it clear he was not going to finish she was in control. Last straw was she invited my husband to wedding and not me. How am I suppose to be nice to this woman. They take our money borrow and loan but i am not good enough to go to the wedding. My heart is broken but I will stay away I wish my son a happy life but I dont want to be part of this soap opera anymore. I am trying to get over this we were a close family before and it is hurting all of us. Aunts, uncles, grandparents. I would appreciate any help on this. My husband and I are lost, we felt we provided a loving and caring environment, we coached, room parents, worked extra jobs to send him to private schools and summer adventures. Confusing ? about my parents and divorce! PLEASE HELP!? OK so I'm 17 and for some reason every body I know tells me their personal secrets, even my parents! And yesterday when I was in the car with my mom she told me that she fell in love with someone and that her and my dad were getting a divorce! My parents love each other and they have been together for 20 yrs but my dad is a home loving person and my mom loves adventure so it sometimes makes my mom feel depressed that she doesn't go explore the world and stuff, but my parents have always been able to overcome this and everything else! Then I found out that this guy was playing on her emotions and had con'd her into loving him saying that he traveled the world and telling her about his sad life and stuff. So then later my dad told me that he talked to this guy and that him and my mom weren't getting a divorce and that they were going on a vacation and working thing out. But now this is all I can think about! I feel sad and kinda lost and I know I should talk to them about this- but I can't and I don't think it will really help, just open the wound even wider. I have a really hard time talking about my feelings and emotions and when my mom told me this I cried with her which is a big deal for me because I don't cry! And I don't want to feel sad like this anymore or feel like they could still get a divorce. I love my parents and I'm ot mad at either of them and I don't want anyone to think bad of my mom she has went through a lot in her life and she gets depressed and bored with life a lot. Looking for a great end of the year Vacation Spot, any suggestions? I want to go on my first real vacation. Meaning not traveling to a wedding or for the holidays but going someplace just to relax and enjoy myself. With that said, I'll probably end up going by myself. I asked a friend to come with me but you never know if someone is serious or going to back out. I'd like to find someplace interesting and beautiful. In or out of the country but I only with have at most $1500 to spend. I thought of the Dominican Republic and Belize. In the states, Alaska and Maine. Baja Mexico Vacation: Cheap Accomodation & Adventure Ideas? I received two free tickets to San Diego, CA. I've been there, but would like to rent a jeep and drive to Mexico for 9 days. I have off from work 9 days in mid-September. Any one have any recommendations for a city, hotel, rental cottage, etc. within 2 days drive of San Diego? Requirements: ON a beach Directly ON the Pacific or Sea of Cortez & offering snorkeling/scuba. Plus, any other "adventure" activities nearby (boat rental, ATV riding, horses, etc.) would be an added bonus. Free continental breakfast would be great, but "all inclusive" is a waste on light eaters who also do not drink. :-) Travel agents feel free to reply, but I am really looking for someone with direct recent experience with a place they liked or perhaps a property or B&B owner. I have never traveled this far w/ a baby & so far the farthest my son has been away from home was 2 hours away for a funeral. Is there anything I normally wouldn't think of that I shoud know/pack/do? We will be gone for 5 days & we'll be staying in a fully furnished condo (We hate hotels!) If there is any advice you can give or tips you can think of they would def. be appreciated! Thanks!

i need a duffle bag that can be carried on the airplane & sturdy enough to last a month in costa rica. ideas? going on a month long vacation in costa rica.. half the time i'm staying with a local family, but the other half im traveling throughout the country and need an easy to carry bag. i'm looking for a duffle bag with backpack straps that is small enough to meet the carry on requirements. This isn't intense backpacking, the furthest distance i have to carry this bag will be 1 mile. has anybody found a light-weight, easy to carry, comfortable bag that can endure wet/dry environments and be small enough to cram into the overhead bins in the airplanes? any help on the subject would be greatly appreciated as this is my first international adventure travel trip.

What's your idea of the perfect vacation get-away . . The beach scene, a mountain adventure or travel/sightseeing?

I am a 23 year old college graduate I hate my job and have a bad case of Wanderlust I NEED to travel and soon I have a degree in Film Production and have been working as a manager at PetSmart. I hate it there and i feel like i need an adventure I am going on a trip next summer. Should i A. take a vacation to France for a week or two then go back to work. B. Quit my job, backpack across Europe than when i get back decide what to do with my life/career C.Quit my job, Travel around the world and try to get as many experiences as i can before i eventually make my way back and go to grad school or start a new career or D. None of the above, just stay here and deal with it

Disneyworld/Universal Vacation.. what parks to visit We're planning a trip to Orlando in the coming weeks. We've been to Disney World before. We plan on using our tickets from the previous visit which has one day left. Our choice was to go to Magic Kingdom for that one day. However, We want to visit Universal for the first time. What parks would u reccommend? Islands of Adventure or the Universal Studios Orlando. What rides are the best at each Universal Park? (travelling with a boy 12 and girl 17)

Please provide us some travel tips on a cruise vacation to cozumel and progreso in Mexico.? The tickets are booked for nov 08. By tips I mean what kind of things should I carry on the trip? Is it better to hire a vehicle when we get to the island to move around or just go with the group? What kind of things are more fun do in the Island? We are planning to learn swimming b4 the travel so we could do some water adventures. Also do we need some formal dresses for dinner in the cruise?
