I want to work in something I enjoy. Will you suggest a business for me dealing with travel? I am 31, having worked over the years in boring office jobs. I've waited tables, tried retail, and even had a brief time as a coordinator. My passion has always been with travel. I love to explore, to go on any adventure. I love to get lost in the world. I enjoy being in nature, recently having gone mountaineering in Nepal. I enjoy rock climbing, but most of all travel. I have even contacted adventure travel companies to be a guide. Yet, they say that I don't have enough experience in the country, or need to be from the country. I have studied languages since I was little. Spanish is still good. Can anyone suggest a way to make money and do it with travel, eg. travel guide.

How can I get more people to travel to Thailand? My Thai wife and I run a small travel business (TBF Travel) that offers custom and guided luxury adventure travel trips to Thailand. We have a great website and advertise but need more travelers. Our trips are for active people that want to spend a little more and stay in 4 and 5 star resorts. Any ideas to generate more business?
I have an urge to adventure, to explore and descover, but this world is compleetly owned by someone or another (continued question) so I cant freely explore any type of nature. My urge is when I see something out in nature that is cool or beutiful in some way, I want to get closser to it (physicly not mentaly), then travel (by foot) beond it to the next beutifule chalenging obstical to travel beond that in an ever lasting cycle of changing natrale beutys to travel past. It may sound a bit crazy but its my dreem to do this or something relitivly close to it in some sort of national park or something. But I dont just want to travel with some boring old guide along a usualy travled, fully safe tail. I want to find my own ways past these obsticals with my own adventurus dangers that I have to overcome myself. sort of like the olden days when adventurers first descoverd this continent and had to map it by foot. If anyone finds anyway for me to expirence something like this, plz, let me know.
Are the REI adventure tours in Patagonia worth the money? I would like to go trekking in Patagonia (Chile and Argentina) next year. I've never gone on an official tour (other than a few outings that lasted a few hours or half a day), but I enjoy traveling on my own. However, I question the safety of embarking on a jaunt like this by myself. I'm very fit and comfortable with hiking and camping but I don't have any back-packing experience. So I'm thinking maybe a guided tour would be the right idea this time around. Has anyone done any of the Patagonia adventure tours offered by REI? They're ridiculously expensive, but I know it's a good company and they have an excellent reputation. Any feedback, suggestions, and particularly info from someone who's taken one of the tours is much appreciated! My biggest hang-up is definitely the price. I usually travel on-the-cheap.
Recommendations for books (or other info sources) for traveling by car from Mexico to Tierra del Fuego? I think I'd like to take some time off work and travel by car (4x4) from NY through Mexico to Tierra del Fuego. I was doing a search on Amazon and there are several books on this topic with regard to doing it on a Motorcycle (such as Odyssey to Ushuaia: A Motorcycling Adventure from New York to Tierra del Fuego). Are there any similar books (or websites) chronicling such an adventure by 4x4? Or should I just use the motorcycle books for planning purposes and consult country specific travel guides for the details? I'm mostly concerned with the Mexico to Panama leg of this journey. Once I get to Colombia, I have friends who are in 4x4 clubs and would journey with them on south to Tierra del Fuego.
Advise on travel to Peru? I have always wanted to go to Peru. I have some graduation money to fund a short trip (7-10d), I would like to pay for portions for my boyfriend also. can anyone help me on this trying to figure out how to write on Mt St Helens? As the senior tour guide for “Geology Adventures,” you have been asked to chart a course of travel that will allow guests to visit geological wonders. Your clientele is most interested in learning something of significance, so you will need to provide scripts for each location that fully describe the geological feature, how it was formed, and considerations for how we can protect the feature, or any caution that should be taken as the feature evolves in the future. For each destination, you should also include an interesting fact or suggestion, such as a myth or legend associated with the geological feature, how the feature was named, or recreational opportunities that are available at this location there will be five stops on your tour and five sections in your final paper: 1.Tour introduction
What do you think of this poem I have written? What Dreams Can't Do As I lay asleep at night I see the most delightful sight All the sights and sounds of sweet dreams And all is perfect under the bright sun beams I will see journeys of grand adventure Through every world that I may venture Animals and people of reality and myth Will be my guides whom i travel along with We will battle fearsom beasts Or maybe enjoy the greatest of feasts But when my alarm goes off it all ends Oh how I hate how it all transcends I wish to stay forever in the world I was The place where my reality has no cause But then I realize that I was wrong When I hear that most ever sweet song It is the sound of my family calling below But if I stayed in the other world I know I never again would of held them in my arms For no world could make up for their charms. I've been offered a job but it means long periods away from home: what do I need to consider? Hello! I am a 22 year old single British lad, just graduated from Uni with a degree in archaeology. I live at home with mum and dad. During my gap year I went travelling with an overland adventure copmany that organises tours around the middle east, Africa and south America. Since graduation they've offered me a job with them as a tour guide. The work involves being abroad for a year at a time, without breaks, and up to four years away in some instances, leading tours. If I didn't have any family I'd go without pausing to think. The thing is, mum and dad are getting on and the thought of them growing old whilst I am away tears me apart- I'd hate to think of them becoming feeble without me there to care for them, even if they have each other. What should I do? Who can I speak to, as I know my parents would just say whatever they thought would keep me happy? What would YOU do? Thanks for all sensible advice.
What is the lesson of this story? David Pradarelli Assalam-aleikum wa rahmatullah! I came to Islam pretty much on my own. I was born and raised Roman Catholic, but I always had a deep fascination with the spiritualities of other cultures. My Journey started when I desired to have a relationship with my creator. I wanted to find my spirituality, and not the one I was born with. I spent some time in the Catholic religious order known as the Franciscans. I had many friends and I enjoyed prayer times, but it just seemed to relaxed in its faith, and there was, in my opinion, too much arrogance and hypocrisy. When I had returned back from the order into secular living again, I once again was searching for my way to reach God (Allah). One night I was watching the news on television, and of course they were continuing their one-sided half-truth reports on Muslims (always in a negative light instead of balancing it by showing the positive side as well) with images of violence and terrorism. I decided long ago that the news media has no morals whatsoever and will trash anyone for that "juicy story", and I pretty much refused to believe anything they said. I decided to research Islam for myself and draw my own conclusions. What I found paled all the negative images that the satanic media spewed forth. I found a religion deep in love and spiritual truth, and constant God-mindfullness. What may be fanatacism to one person may be devotion to another. I picked up a small paperback Qur'an and began devouring everything I could. It opened my eyes to the wonder and mercy of ALLAH, and I found the fascination growing every day...it was all I could think about. No other religion including Catholicism impacted me in such a powerful way...I actually found myself in God-awareness 24 hours a day 7 days a week...each time I went to my five daily prayers, I went with anticipation...finally! What I have been searching for all of my life. I finally got enough courage to go to a mosque and profess the Shahadah before my Muslm brothers and sisters. I now am a practicing Muslim and I thank ALLAH for leading me to this place: Ashhahdu anna la ilaha ilallah wa Muhammadur rasul ALLAH! This means: "I believe in the oneness and totalness of ALLAH and that Muhammad(peace and blessings be upon him)is the chosen prophet of ALLAH." I now also accept Jesus as no longer equal with ALLAH, but sent as Muhammad was sent ...to bring all of mankind to submission to the will of ALLAH! May all of mankind find the light and truth of ALLAH. Ibrahim Karlsson I was born in an ordinary , non-religious Swedish home, but with a very loving relationship to each other. I had lived my life 25 years without really thinking about the existence of God or anything spiritual what-so-ever; I was the role model of the materialistic man. Or was I? I recall a short story I wrote in 7th grade, something about my future life, where I portray myself as a successful games programmer (I hadn't yet even touched a computer) and living with a Muslim wife!! OK, at that time Muslim to me meant dressing in long clothes and wearing a scarf, but I have no idea where those thoughts came from. Later, in high school, I remember spending much time in the school-library (being a bookworm) and at one time I picked up a translated Qur'an and read some passages from it. I don't remember exactly what I read, but I do remember finding that what it said made sense and was logical to me. Still, I was not at all religious, I couldn't fit God in my universe, and I had no need of any god. I mean, we have Newton to explain how the universe works, right? Time passed, I graduated and started working. Earned some money and moved to my own apartment, and found a wonderful tool in the PC. I became a passionate amateur photographer, and enrolled in activities around that. At one time I was documenting a marketplace, taking snapshots from a distance with my telelens when an angry looking immigrant came over and explained that he would make sure I wasn't going to take any more pictures of his mum and sisters. Strange people those Muslims... More things related to Islam happened that I can't explain why I did what I did. I can't recall the reason I called the "Islamic information organisation" in Sweden, ordering a subscription to their newsletter, buying Yosuf Ali's Qur'an and a very good book on Islam called Islam - our faith. I just did! I read almost all of the Qur'an, and found it to be both beautiful and logical, but still, God had no place in my heart. One year later, whilst out on a patch of land called "pretty island" (it really is) taking autumn-color pictures, I was overwhelmed by a fantastic feeling. I felt as if I were a tiny piece of something greater, a tooth on a gear in God's great gearbox called the universe. It was wonderful! I had never ever felt like this before, totally relaxed, yet bursting with energy, and above all, total awareness of god wherever I turned my eyes. I don't know how long I stayed in this ecstatic state, but eventually it ended and I drove home, seemingly unaffected, but what I had experienced left uneraseable marks in my mind. At this time Microsoft brought Windows-95 to the market with the biggest marketing blitz known to the computer industry. Part of the package was the on-line service The Microsoft Network. And keen to know what is was I got myself an account on the MSN. I soon found that the Islam BBS were the most interesting part of the MSN, and that's where I found Shahida. Shahida is a American woman, who like me has converted to Islam. Our chemistry worked right away, and she became the best pen-friend I have ever had. Our e-mail correspondence will go down in history: the fact that my mailbox grew to something like 3 megabytes over the first 6 months tells its own tale. She and I discussed a lot about Islam and faith in god in general, and what she wrote made sense to me. Shahida had an angels patience with my slow thinking and my silly questions, but she never gave up the hope in me. Just listen to your heart and you'll find the truth she said. And I found the truth in myself sooner than I'd expected. On the way home from work, in the bus with most of the people around me asleep, and myself adoring the sunset, painting the beautifully dispersed clouds with pink and orange colours, all the parts came together, how God can rule our life, yet we're not robots. How I could depend on physics and chemistry and still believe and see Gods work. It was wonderful, a few minutes of total understanding and peace. I so long for a moment like this to happen again! And it did, one morning I woke up, clear as a bell, and the first thought that ran through my brain was how grateful to God I were that he made me wake up to another day full of opportunities. It was so natural, like I had been doing every day of my life! After these experiences I couldn't no longer deny God's existence. But after 25 years of denying God it was no easy task to admit his existence and accept faith. But good things kept happening to me, I spent some time in the US, and at this time I started praying, testing and feeling, learning to focus on God and to listen to what my heart said. It all ended in a nice weekend in New York, of which I had worried a lot, but it turned out to be a success, most of all, I finally got to meet Shahida! At this point there was no return, I just didn't know it yet. But God kept leading me, I read some more, and finally got the courage to call the nearest Mosque and ask for a meeting with some Muslims. With trembling legs I drove to the mosque, which I had passed many times before, but never dared to stop and visit. I met the nicest people there, and I was given some more reading material, and made plans to come and visit the brothers in their home. What they said, and the answers they gave all made sense. Islam became a major part of my life, I started praying regularly, and I went to my first Jumma prayer. It was wonderful, I sneaked in, and sat in the back, not understanding a word the imam was saying, but still enjoying the service. After the khutba we all came together forming lines, and made the two 'rakaas'. It was yet one of the wonderful experiences I have had on my journey to Islam. The sincerity of 200 men fully devoted to just one thing, to praise God, felt great! Slowly my mind started to agree with my heart, I started to picture myself as a Muslim, but could I really convert to Islam? I had left the Swedish state-church earlier, just in case, but to pray 5 times a day? to stop eating pork? Could I really do that? And what about my family and friends? I recalled what Br. Omar told me, how his family tried to get him admitted to an asylum when he converted. Could I really do this? By this time the Internet wave had swept my country, and I too had hooked up with the infobahn. And "out there" were tons of information about Islam. I think I collected just about every web page with the word Islam anywhere in the text, and learned a lot. But what really made a change was a text I found in Great Britain, a story of a newly converted woman with feelings exactly like mine. 12 hours is the name of the text. When I had read that story, and wept the tears out of my eyes I realized that there were no turning back anymore, I couldn't resist Islam any longer. Summer vacation started, and I had made my mind up. I had to become a Muslim! But after all, the start of the summer had been very cold, and if my first week without work was different, I wouldn't lose a day of sunshine by not being on the beach. On the TV the weatherman painted a big sun right on top of my part of the country. OK then, some other day... The next morning; a steel grey sky, with ice-cold gusts of wind outside my bedroom window. It was like God had decided my time was up, I could wait no longer. I had the required bath, and dressed in clean clothes, jumped in my car and drove the 1 hour drive to the mosque. In the Mosque I approached the brothers with my wish, and after dhuhr prayer the Imam and some brothers witnessed me say the Shahada. Alhamdulillah! And to my great relief all my family and friends have taken my conversion very well, they have all accepted it, I won't say they were thrilled, but absolutely no hard feelings. They can't understand all the things I do. Like praying 5 times a day on specific times, or not eating pork meat. They think this is strange foreign customs that will die out with time, but I'll prove them wrong. InshaAllah! Abd al-Hayy Moore I became a Muslim when it seemed I had already accepted Islam in my bones, as if beyond choice, and I only had to make a leap to embrace it formally. Outwardly I was content; inwardly I was coasting. My three-year-old theatre company was disbanded after a hilariously chaotic production for a Tim Leary Benefit at the Family Dog in San Francisco, circa '68 -- naturally the orange juice everyone had passed around was spiked, so that chorus members were doing the final scene in the first ten minutes -- and for six months I had been methodically typing out poetry manuscripts in my attic in Berkeley preparatory to a big publishing peak. I considered myself a Zen Buddhist. But I was other things as well. My normal routine was to get up, sit zazen, smoke a joint, do half an hour of yoga, then read the "Mathnawi" of Rumi, the long mystical poem of that great Persian Sufi of the thirteenth century. Then I met the man who was to be my guide to our teacher in Morocco, Shaykh Muhammad ibn al-Habib, may Allah be pleased with him. At first the meeting was simply remarkable, and my guide simply a remarkable man. But soon our encounter was to become extraordinary, leading to a revolution in my life from which I have never recovered and never hope to. The man looked like an eccentric Englishman. He too had only recently come out of the English version of the Hippie Wave. He was older, refined in his manners, spectacularly witty and intellectual, but of that kind prevalent then who had hobnobbed with the Beatles and knew the Tantric Art collection of Brian Jones firsthand. He had been on all the classic drug quests -- peyote in the Yucatan, mescaline with Laura Huxley -- but with the kif quest in Morocco he had stumbled on Islam and then the Sufis, and the game was up. A profound change had taken place in his life that went far beyond the psychedelic experience. For the three days following our meeting, two other Americans and I listened in awe as this magnificent storyteller unfolded the picture of Islam, of the perfection of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, of the Sufis of Morocco, and of the 100-year-old plus Shaykh, sitting under a great fig tree in a garden with his disciples singing praises of Allah. It was everything I'd always dreamed of. It was poetry come alive. It was the visionary experience made part of daily life, with the Prophet a perfectly balanced master of wisdom and simplicity, an historically accessible Buddha, with a mixture of the earthiness of Moses, the otherworldliness of Jesus, and a light all his own. The prophetic knowledge our guide talked about was a kind of spiritual existentialism. It was a matter of how you enter a room, which foot you entered with, that you sipped water but gulped milk, that you said, "Bismillah" (In the Name of Allah) before eating or drinking, and "Al-hamdulillah" (Praise be to Allah) afterwards, and so on. But rather than seeing this as a burden of hundreds of "how-to's," it was more like what the LSD experience taught us, that there is a "right" way to do things that has, if you will, a cosmic resonance. It is a constant awareness of courtesy to the Creator and His creation that itself ensures and almost visionary intensity. It is hard to put forward any kind of explanation of Islam, to try to suggest the beauty of its totality, through the medium of words. The light of Islam, since it is transformational and alchemical in nature, almost always comes via a human messenger who is a transmitter of the picture by his very being. Face to face with our guide, what struck us most was his impeccable, noble behavior. He seemed to be living what he was saying. Finally the moment came, as a surprise, when he confronted me with my life. "Well," he said one morning after three full days of rapturous agreement that what he was bringing to us was the best thing we'd ever heard, "What do you think? Do you want to become a Muslim?" I hedged. "It's the most beautiful thing I've heard about so far. After all my Zen Buddhism, all my yoga, Tibetan Buddhism and Hindu gurus, this is certainly it! But I think I would like to travel a little, see the world, go to Afghanistan (then unoccupied), maybe meet my Shaykh in a mountain village far off somewhere." "That's not good enough. You have to decide now. Yes or no. If it's yes, then we start on a great adventure. If it's no, then no blame, I've done my duty. I'll just say goodbye and go on my way. But you have to decide now. I'll go downstairs and read a magazine and wait. Take your time." When he had left th

Isn't this about the STUPIDEST thing you ever heard of?? Mexican theme park turns border crossing into sport Jeremy Schwartz Cox News Service Aug. 23, 2006 12:00 AM IXMIQUILPAN, Mexico - On a misty, moonless night, the group scurried down the canyon wall, their feet slipping in the ankle-deep mud. The sirens grew louder as their guide, clad in a ski mask and known only as Poncho, urged them to run faster. "Hurry up! The Border Patrol is coming!" A couple in matching designer tennis outfits loped awkwardly along, the boyfriend clutching a digital video camera and struggling to keep the screen steady. The 20 or so people fleeing the Border Patrol aren't undocumented immigrants. They're tourists about 700 miles from the border. Most are well-heeled professionals more likely to travel to the United States in an airplane than on foot. advertisement They've each paid 150 pesos, or about $15, for what is perhaps Mexico's strangest tourist attraction: a night as an undocumented immigrant crossing the Rio Grande. Advertising for the mock journey, which takes place at a nature park in the central state of Hidalgo, tells the pretend immigrants to "Make fun of the Border Patrol!" and to "Cross the border as an extreme sport!" The organizers say they are trying to build empathy for migrants by putting people in their shoes. And the organizers, members of a Hnahnu indigenous community, speak from experience. Leaders estimate as many as 90 percent of the 2,500-person community have made the journey to the United States, most ending up in the boomtown of Las Vegas. "We do this to show the people what it's like, to make them more conscious," said Hnahnu elder Luis Santiago Hernandez, who has crossed more than five times. Santiago said that although they try to make the experience authentic, "it's not even 10 percent of the real thing." The trip also seeks to educate participants on Hnahnu culture and represents a source of income for the community, leaders said. The Mexican government helped finance the creation of the Eco Alberto nature park. Participants said they were lured by the realistic experience promised by the nearly six-hour nocturnal walk. "It was like being in their flesh and bones," marveled Oswaldo Martinez, 31, of Cuernavaca. "It was cool. It was very fun," gushed his friend Mauricio Palacios, 30. "I never imagined it would be like that." Until almost 2 a.m., the group scaled walls, hid in tunnels, jumped on the back of pickup trucks and followed a path through a cornfield. The trip ended with a ride in blindfolds to a Hnahnu holy place where Poncho, whose name is Alfonso Martinez Flores, asked the group to be more honest and sincere in their lives. Word of the tourist attraction has provoked much head-scratching among immigrant advocates in the United States and real-life immigrants who have made the trek across the border. Some called the risk-free adrenaline rush insulting. Others said it could improve the often-conflicted attitudes of Mexicans toward their compatriots who migrate. "Anything that raises awareness in Mexico of the plight of undocumented immigrants is welcome," said Jorge Bustamante, special Mexican representative to the U.N. for human rights of migrants. "But the indifference is very strong, and it's greater as you ascend in social class." Maria Garcia, a Mexican immigrant who founded the Hispanic Community Support Center in Duluth, Ga., said the mock crossing could be perceived as exploiting the suffering of migrants. "Someone crossing the border knows they could die," she said. "Someone going on this tour knows they will have fun." Immigrant rights advocate Josefina Castillo, director of the Austin American Friends Service Committee office in Texas, said the adventure should include dialogue about the economic reasons immigrants leave home. "If it's just part of a show, then it would be (insulting)," she said. "It should lead to more education."
should the U.S. adopt the Libertarian Foreign policy...? and pull out of Europe and let Russia,China and the muslims fight over it? Libertarian Foreign Policy American foreign policy should seek an America at peace with the world and the defense -- against attack from abroad -- of the lives, liberty, and property of the American people on American soil. Provision of such defense must respect the individual rights of people everywhere. The principle of non-intervention should guide relationships between governments. The United States government should return to the historic libertarian tradition of avoiding entangling alliances, abstaining totally from foreign quarrels and imperialist adventures, and recognizing the right to unrestricted trade, travel, and immigration.
10 pts! I revised my poem based on Y/A suggestions...now what do you think? Honest opinions please, I like critisism, thats why I revised this one. What do you think? Would you say yes? My Proposal I dreamt the same dreams last night, Where I wake up, and everything is right, Opening my eyes, smiling, she is there, Knowing it's true, loving her without fear. Always friends, hard feelings I can't hold, She knew everything, not having to be told. Thoughts of us jubilant years together, Smiling bliss, knowing we'll venture further, She smiles, and doesn't say anything. I am sure, because she's all I know, I need her here to love and guide me, So I take her hand, not travelling alone. Extending my heart and soul in my hand, I ask her to stay, she's everything I am, To be with me on this adventure, I can't do this, unless she is with me.
10 pts! What do you think of this poem I wrote? Be honest please! I like creative criticism. It feels like it's missing something, but can't put my finger on it. My Proposal I had the same dreams last night, Where I wake up, and everything is right, Her lips close to me as I open my eyes, She is here loving me without fear. A cool wind breezes the window curtains, Pulling the comforter up, holding her closer, I'll care for her forever, this I am certain, Smiling bliss, knowing we'll venture further, She smile, and doesn't say anything. I am sure, because she is all I know, I need her here to love and guide me, So I take her hand, not travelling alone. Extending my heart and soul in my hand, I ask her to stay, she's everything I am, To be with me on this adventure, My compass and my key, I need her with me.

which is the best trip have you undertaken till date ? Hampi was not on our radar, while traveling to Chitradurga Fort, we planned for just a weekend getaway from Bangalore by car. After finishing the trip to Kalline Kote, we instinctively decided why not rush to Hampi? It is just 150 kms away, with small stretch of 18 kms of bad road before Kudilgi on NH 13. I happened to visit during 1978 along with my parents. In those days, it was typical village with a rustic atmosphere. There was not much interest among the tourist to visit this place, which was known as ruined city, without any guide we wandered cluelessly and we landed in the peak of summer to add to our discomfort. The only distinct memory was that of Inverted Gopuram of Virupakasha temple. After a gap of nearly 30 years I find that a new civilization has emerged. Perhaps after Hampi being declared a world heritage site in 1987, a mind blowing transformation has taken place at Hampi. It is as if history is being re-written, with guides, autorikshaw round trip, bike guides, and professional tour operators unleashing knowledge to tourists. There are exists lot of similarities between POMPEII & HAMPI. The common features are : 1. Road Network 2. Water Management 3. Temple construction 4. Public functions 5. Common Bath 6. Cultural Festivity 7 Art & Sculpture 8. Well defined markets.9 Brothels Lane. Trading activity were carried out between various parts of the world in both the periods. We find gems & jewellery being traded in the bazaars. All household articles such as pottery, grains, vegetables, fruits, beetlenut, flowers etc were being traded. Further brothel lanes were located in the bazaar for the visitors and artisans from outstation. Our first point of visit was Virupaksha temple which was guided by a foreigner, because we ignored the offer to be guided @ Rs 400/- for a trip, which we thought was exhorbitant. We entered the Virupaksha temple without any enterance fee ( between 6.30 to 8 am it is free entry) The sheer grandeur started unraveling. On the left there is a sanctum which is occupied by tourists for changeover, which is really surprising. The main temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, who is supposed to have been captivated by the dedication of Pampadevi. Lord Shiva consented to marry Pampa in his avatar as Virupaksha, the presiding deity. Behind the Virupaksha temple lies a room wherein we can view the inverted image of the main tower through a pin hole. It is application of Periscope principle. The bazaar in front of the Virupakasha temple is proposed to be shifted to another place to maintain the heritage look. The proposed shopping centre will be the main reporting centre for Hampi excursion. An organized trip with eco friendly mode of transport would be ideal. Further a fixed guide charges would be also be ideal depending on no of spots toured or time spent concept. After Virupaksha temple visit we walked across a lane adjescent to the right, just on a blinder, towards Hemkunta hill. Here one is astounded by the skills of rock carving work station.. It is like a canvas on which artist exhibits his painting. The granite was the main raw material for most types of monumental construction at the site – which was abundant in and around Hampi for over 200 kms. Traditionally, granite blocks were split by first cutting rows of closely spaced cubical holes into which wooden wedges were pounded. When wetted, the wedges expanded, thereby propagating deep cracks through the stone which split as per dimension required by the artisans. We found almost four temples, one was literally filled with water on the entrance, and other not so prominent temples, maybe created for low strata people of the times, even the poojary of the temple just gave us some insight, for which he was suitably tipped. The overnight heavy rain had made the rocky surface quite slippery, it was an adventure to climb Hemkunta hillock. The entire Hampi area, is visible in all its panaromic view. There is an acropolis type of two storey structure maybe for the kings to view. There is no description on this monument to my surprise. Once you start climbing down the steps which is neatly chiseled on the rocks it is adventurers delight, a neat landscaped garden leads to Sasvikalu Ganesha. It is a monolithic exposure of Lord Ganesha which is barricaded to prevent vandalism. Next we walk across we, come to Dodda Ganesh, which is again vandalized by Sultans, it is now a crude form, luckily the sanctum and veranda in not pillaged, the sculptures are exhuberance of dance and drama of the bygone era. Ugra Narasimha monolithic statue is located nearby along with Badavi Linga installed by a poor women. We got to know that autorikshaw guides are available @ Rs 250/- to take us around and we decided to hire such a guide. He spent 3 hours taking us around all the important landmark starting from Hemkunt Dodda Kalu Ganesh, Sasive Ganesh, Ugra Narasimha, Badavi Linga, Veerabhadra Temple, Lotus Mahal, Elephant’s Stable, Mahanavami Dibba, Hazaar Rama Temple & Vittala Temple. At the Mahanavmi Dibba, a celebration for Nine days was unfolded by the royalty. The king witnessed the cultural programmes such as folk dances, puppet show, fancy dress, fireworks, military parade, procession of horses and elephants, beginning with pooja to lord Durga. Even today the Government of Karnataka is trying to recreate the tradition of Vijayanagar empire by organizing HAMPI UTSAV in November first week every year. The Sultans wanted to build their own architectural edifice to match Vijaynagar rulers, Lotus Mahal, a summer resting palace was created. It had its own pond to cool the surroundings. Behind the Lotus Mahal, Elephant stables in 11 domed structure is built to house the royal animal. Once again this area is barricaded for renovation. Behind this stable if one is adventurous one can go on a trek to visit a temple winding into a mini forest. There is a small temple by the side of Lotus temple which on the outer wall of Lotus Mahal. After disposing the auto guide. We visited independently visited the balance places Sri Krishna temple, where one notices the vandalism of Sultans, who literally burnt down the temple along with people. It is rarely visited by tourist, the sculpture work is marvelous. Then went around back to Hazaar Rama temple, which is the ultimate exposure of the skills of the artisans on rock hewn walls, temples and pillars. It is a culmination of the golden era of Vijaynagar empire. It looks as if the Kings got into a mode of celeberation of life, without warfare. We find scenes from the epics Ramayana, hunting scenes, battleground warfare, courtesans entertaining the kings, hunting scene in olden days and in general description of all day to day events in the life of the royalty. The underground Shiva temple is a marvel. It is fed by water channels, which have entered the temple premises due to lack of conservation effort. Will ASI do some quick thinking otherwise it meet the fate of Musical pillar at Vittala temple. Museum at Kamalapura houses some of the restored sculptures and various other pieces of artwork is stored. Many foreign travelers scourge HAMPI in their quest for the hidden treasures of HAMPI by camping months together. Someday, someone is bound to hit the jackpot. Till then Hampi literally rocks.

Andrew Romano New Supporter: Obama with Lewis. Photo: John Amis/AP. On Wednesday I wrote that "depending how March 4 shakes out, [the Potomac Primary] results--and the likely Obama wins in Wisconsin and Hawaii--may help determine the Democratic nominee by the ides of March." My thinking went like this: After eight (and maybe 10 straight wins), the Illinois senator will lead at that point by more than 100 pledged delegates--but it won't be enough to reach magic number (2,025) by the end of primary season in June. Looking ahead, the 400 uncommitted Democratic superdelegates--the only people with the power to put either Clinton or Obama over the top--will have a choice: 1) prolong the contest through the convention, ensuring a messy, divisive battle involving Florida, Michigan and back room wheeling and dealing or 2) move en masse to the "people's choice" and get busy uniting the party for November. But is Obama's tipping point coming sooner than even I expected? Yesterday afternoon, the New York Times (among others) reported that Rep. John Lewis, an elder statesman from the civil rights era and one of Hillary Clinton’s most prominent black supporters, is suddenly planning to cast his vote as a superdelegate for Obama in" hopes of preventing a fight at the Democratic convention." “In recent days, there is a sense of movement and a sense of spirit,” said Lewis. “Something is happening in America, and people are prepared and ready to make that great leap.” Hungry for news on a slow day, the media responded with typical breathlessness. "Floodgates could open," wrote Time's Mark Halperin, a reliable peddler of Beltway CW. "If Lewis breaks away, take whatever you thought Clinton’s chances of winning the nomination before and divide that number by as much as two — those would be the odds of her winning now." Whoa, nelly. Not so fast. Sure, Lewis's "defection" is significant--but in a limited sense. For one thing, it's not really a defection; instead, Lewis is still endorsing Clinton (for the time being) but promising to cast his superdelegate vote at the convention with his Atlanta-area district, which voted three-to-one for Obama--if it comes to that. Lewis's confusing stance symbolizes a very specific political challenge facing black elected superdelegates--and black elected superdelegates only. If Obama maintains his lead among pledged delegates, members of the Congressional Black Caucus who have endorsed Clinton will face enormous pressure to switch sides. Like Lewis, many represent districts where Obama earned 85 to 90 percent support among black voters--meaning to defy their constituents and cast a vote that lots of people would see as stealing the election from the first black president would be tantamount to political suicide. Advertisement Over the past few weeks, there's been a slow drift of superdelegate support from Clinton to Obama. Not counting Lewis, Obama has gained 12 superdelegates since Feb. 5, while Clinton has lost a net of three. But until we start seeing a greater number of pols making the leap to Obama without such political pressure, I think it's a bit early to say the floodgates have opened. It may happen; it may not. But any potential tipping point is still a ways away. Featured, Barack Obama Permalink: http://www.blog.newsweek.com/blogs/stumper/archive/2008/02/15/obama-s-tipping-point-not-yet.aspx Sphere It! Offense Taken In this campaign, there is no room for remarks of any sort on any subject. - By Michael Kinsley Commentsscschmidt wrote: Michael Kinsley's article, "Offense Taken" is way off base. The example that he cited are based on relationships, yes- whether they be a cousin or a hairdresser. However, the GREAT BIG DIFFERENCE is that when someone goes out of their way to verbally expound the degree of influence that someone has on you as well as when you tout this person as a role model or "mentor" - well now this is VERY dofferent. By doing this, you indeed are connecting yourself to this person in every way since you indicated that their beliefs were used to mentor and foster your own beliefs. When you look up to someone as a mentor or role model, you are believing in the basic principles of theirs. Obama's open statements to th ereverend being his spiritual mentor and best friend makes his beliefs as suspect as the reverend's. In addition, Obama can now denounce all he wants to but how could he be a parishioner for 17 years and listen to these types of statements if as Obama NOW states are "outrageous"? I think that we need to realy questiob Obama's truthfullness or question his judgement. In either case, the country should seriously reconsider any support for such a candidate. It is frightening that Obama's paltform really emphasizes "change" and his real agenda would seem to indicate other. We need to change our support to Senator Clinton and assure her success in November. 3/17/2008 9:05:12 PM Recommend (0) Report Abuse Discussion Policy LISANROY wrote: amemended comments of dr kamal roy dt 3,17,2008 LISANROY wrote: COMmENTS OF REV DR KAMAL KARNA Karuna ROY A REPUBLICAN CANIDATE AND HoPEFUL TO BE the NOMINEE OF GOP IN SCHEDULED ELECTION FOr NOV 4, 2008, IF BE HELD WITHOUT any COURT ORDER OF INJUNCTION to postpone corrpt election as PRAYED BY DR kamal k k ROY ALLEGING SKY_HIGH AND CLOUD_DARK CORRUPTIONS BY DEFENDANTS IN CIVIL ACTIONS FILED IN 20+ U S D COURT actions in 20+ different JURISDICTIONS with allegations against defendants for negligence to enforce laws not TO PUSH OUT ELECTORAL CONTESTANTS FROM WEAKER COMMUNITIES OF HAVE-nots 3/17/2008 9:04:05 PM Recommend (0) Report Abuse Discussion Policy rmorris391 wrote: well this is "midly amusing". While the Mainstream Media (MSM) has too much time on its hands, to consider a long winded campaign, the focus has shifted to non-political discourse, about intractable problems that confound american society. We have issues related to baseball players, after all, who alledgedly used illegal substances to puff up their biceps. Certainly, congress can devise a surge campaign to intervene with major league baseball, and save the poor players from the rich players. After all, the economic crisis in MLB is looming, and requires some "foreign ownership equity." This is, afterall the land of "ownership." At least that is what a young president Bush promised the american public. UPDATE, 11:51 p.m.: Searching my inbox, I noticed that the Obama campaign has announced seven superdelegate pickups since March 4. So there might be something to my "steady drip" theory. With seven weeks until Pennsylvania, a constant stream of superdelegate endorsements is a good way to create the impression of momentum--whether or not the supers in question decided to endorse today, yesterday or last month. Conversely, a sudden flood this week might've struck observers as a show of pre-March 4 support--and left them wondering whether Obama could keep attracting superdelegates after Clinton's wins in Ohio and Texas. Now it *looks like* he is. Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama

Places of Interest to see around...? I was told to ask on the US site....which is where I submitted my question... ho-hum Maybe I'll have better luck here? Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Virginia Prefer Historical and Adventure. Where would YOU want to return back to in these areas for a weekend break travelling by road, and WHY would you recommend it? What sort of route map would YOU suggest along this route so I could get a real feel of the area, that is slightly off the beaten track, and not a Tourist Bus Tour Guide?

What do i do if i am on the career path to be a nurse but all i dream about is working at a winter ski park? I am a sensible child I do what my mother wants. I'm a family oriented person. I want the good life. I want to be a nurse, but i have steped into the wreckless life of outdoor seasonal work bums by being a raft guide for two summers in a row. It has taught me a lot about money management and life in general, but i can't stop wishing i was back there or somewhere up north trying to be a ski instructor or out west working on a ranch. My original plan was to be a travel nurse, work 9 months out of the year and spend the other three indulging in my outdoor adventures, but i don't know anymore.
Amsterdam? HELP! Hello out there! I need advice. I've been designated as the researcher for a trip some friends and I are planning to Amsterdam. A few details; I've never been, we really don't have an area in mind to visit, I've seen the movie "Hostel" and we're not exactly going to see only museums and art. I'm thinking that an agency may be a good route to go due to the high airfare and the whole Euro v. the American $ thing. W/an agency @ least we can do a deposit. Basically, we're looking to go have a great time; shop, ride the trains, view the sights, try the local foods,"herbs and spices"! I'm willing to try a hostel. What I'm looking for is insider information. Where to go, where NOT to go. We want to do the whole adventure thing. Nothing too serious or luxurious. I need sites, suggestions, something to guide my whole take on the planning. I don't want to get duped by the travel wolves and I want to impress my friends as well. (smile) By the way, the trip's in the 2nd wk in July.
What places and sights are awesome to see in Europe? Were 21-25 and campervanning it through the summer.? Hey we're travelling through Europe in a camper starting in may and expect to see nearly half of Europe in four months, and the rest next summer. I was wondering if anyone recommends any amazing places to go and different things to see. Were 21-25 and are keen for adventure, physical activities and weird and awesome places. Ive looked through many of the tour guides and noted the towns they visit but I am curious to know if anyone has been anywhere that isn't a mainstream sight or town or beach etc. Were not too keen on national parks or standard bushwalks though. Also I was wondering if anyone thats campered it around Europe at our age has any pointers on what to do and what not to do. Thanks
Any good or superb web travel guide out there? Somobody know any web travel guide that list or show you the best attractions to visit per country, in that way I go directly to the big deal and not waste my time hanging around with non-sense places!!! I love to take pictures, landscapes and adventures
Is traveling to Europe alone on a excurtion crazy? Even if it's with a group of strangers and a tour guide? I'll be traveling for 11 days with this group. We all see the sights together, and eat meals together and we even stay in the same hotel. Is it only me, but I think of this trip as a great adventure and I feel no fear. But I've told a few people about this trip and they think it's risky.
Can anyone help me find a book I'm searching for? It's kind of a romance/adventure novel. A girl goes to Alaska, I think disguised as a boy, ends up traveling to this island and falling in love with her guide. MOves back to Mt. Denali. Eventually wakes up and finds it was all a dream. Can't remember too many details. Can you help? Thanks.
Egypt trip itinerary help I have to plan a 5-7 day tour to visit historical milestones in Egypt, and it has to be timed (eg 0800-1000 sphinx, 1000-1020 travel time) but the thing is, I've never been to Egypt so I'm not sure how long checking out tombs and travel time would take. Thank you very much in advance!

Three poems listed. Anyone care to Critique. ? "Foolish" Foolish, nothing but foolish boys. The world has no time, No mercy for one such as I. Lost in love where no love should exist. The world laughs. Joy of the spectacle Struggle of the lost. Stubborn and strong with will to carry on. Guided by hope Lost in love. No wish to be found Let the world laugh. Foolish, nothing but foolish men. The world would be lost No hope without ones such as us. "If you go, stay." God cares not where you go Simply that you go... You go with me With the rugged, rough and rustic roads that twist beyond the ruined folds, You go with me. Beneath, behind and in-between the beautiful mountains that are only adventures yet to be seen, You go with me. Along, abroad and above the un-tamable seas, which bring death and life with unimaginable ease, You go with me. For where else can one rest, if their heart beats in the others chest? So do not go where the roads meander, Where the wilds of the mountains wander, Or where Neptune's creations slumber. Do not go, Stay... Here, with me "City beyond the Sea" I think tomorrow I will see The city far beyond the sea. Wander its roads of silver and gold A sight reserved for the bold. How wondrous it would be If that right was meant for me. Lord, my Father please let me see The city far beyond the sea. No. But why should I not see, Who else deserves if not me? Where am I to go? When this wander lust You made me know. This desire to travel through forest and mire, Has always been my heart's desire. Why oh God, am I meant to lament, When this desire You have sent. How long, I Am, Until the hourglass runs out of sand? When will it be my turn to see The city far beyond the sea? Wait, My lord, Who is she, The one who walks along the sea? Does she know of silver and gold? Is she too one of the bold? What makes her wander there, With that heart piercing stare? Is she, like me, meant to see The city far beyond the sea? My Father please let me stay And help her along her way. I care not now to see the city beyond the sea, If she cannot go with me. Yes, My Lord your wisdom is clear, You're the one who brought us here. Father now I see, She is my city beyond the sea.
