Where is the best place to plan and purchase a european vacation for a single 26 year old guy?
And where are the best places to go?

1. If you are wanting to do it as cheaply as possible, you can search expatriates.com. It is kind of like a craigslist for europe.
2. Flights from http://flightcenter.com.au
Insurance from http://worldnomads.com
Accommodation from http://www.europeanhostels.com
Don't forget your toothbrush and some spending money.
3. depends on many things... first what are you in to, and what would you most like to see. I travel in and around Europe heavily and there are a few must see's, Germany is a wonderful place that is very english speaking and friendly, with great people and the getting around is great, try the route between Southern Munich and Elmnoo Austria, it goes through the mountatins and passes Nuschwanstein Castle, surely not spelled right but it is the castle the Disney one was modeled after, great story and great tour. All told Germany is fantastic. Paris is overrated, but for the tobvious must see's like the tower, the arch, and such, it is a less than friendlt place, and if you have seen NYC, you can easily get the idea. Vienna is worth a night or two, great people, great fun, try to get as close to park ring as possible. For E. Europe, hungary is coming along, but is still difficult, I do not care for the UK much, although once out of London, it is not too shabby. But again, for the firsdt time, the inner London sites are a site to take in as you have heard and seen of these things in media and the like all the time. I cannot say enough of Germany, apart from an ugly history, they have the best of EU and the most ease of travel and the nicest people with warm welcomes.
Any ? let me know, I have a ton of info... oh yeah, in Munich, just outside the ceter of the city, look for a small cellar bar, darby's, look for a big guy, black man, boxer, named Kevin, he can dial you in and is wired with every women we encountered together... you cant miss him, he knows .
And best of all.... pages and pages cannot copver the town of Amsterdam, look for a place called Ben's Coffee, ask for Moses, tell him steve from FL. sent you.... he can help, with anything and there are many people who are not this genuine., AM is a 100% best of EU, and should under any circumstance be missed. Shcipol Airport is easy as pie, is tied to every other city you'd ever want to get to, and the train is great, fromthe airport, 10 min, striught to central station... step off and you are in a world like none other.
4. Go to Amsterdam...:) You will have a lot of fun!
5. Depends on what you want? Sightseeing or partying. Cosmos is inexpensive if you want a "leave you alone" bus tour... you don't have to participate in their activities but they provide boarding, transport, and you meet people.
Contiki is more of a party tour thing where you get less sleep.
Or you can do it on your own. Just find cheapest flight RT, usually London. Get a Rail Pass, and go as you please.
Make sure to book first night hotel in London. It makes Passport authority happy if you have place to stay.
London is fun but $$$, Paris is beautiful for a couple days, try going to Prague, Poland, Switzerland if you want a little less expense. Try to fit one day in Venice.
Oh and Paris is not overrated and unfriendly. Just got back this week and both times I visited people were very friendly and helpful and spoke plenty of English. It is a very clean and architecturally magnificient place. Go to Montmartre in the daytime, take in night lights on a bateau mouche, and explore Ile de Cite and the river during the day.
Amsterdam is quite dirty and not my favorite place....
