Why do so many people want to travel out of the USA for vacation, when there are so many great places here??

Public Comments

1. Same way that peoplle from other places love to travel to the USA, specially Miami, NYC, Las Vegas....

2. Because people want to see other cultures. I for one travel a lot out of the USA because my husband is from Britian and I have also been to many of the states and seen a lot of the USA.

3. for me...it wasn't a matter of trying to leave the USA for vacation...we knew there was all kinds of places to go in the states...it was simply that Ireland and Spain are not in the US and thats where we wanted to go....

4. Umm, to experience different cultures, to see things that are located outside of the US, to hear/learn different languages, to experience different foods as they are prepared locally . . . .

Don't get me wrong, I'm an extensive traveler in the US as well. But there are some things that you can only experience overseas.

5. There are great places across the whole world, why limit yourself to one country?

6. My husband says the same thing. He can't understand my desire to travel internationally. I just think it's great to go to another country and experience the culture while vacationing. I also like to see the world not just the US. Plus depending on where you go you can sometimes get a whole lot more for your money.

7. To see how other cultures live. To learn about them and experience them first hand. To try different food. To get away from us Americans....there are so many reasons.

8. I don't understand that either. I'm not leaving the good old USA. We have a lot of great places here. And I'm keeping my money in our economy. Not some other country that probably hates us.

9. I would like to travel to other countries to see what the culture is like. When you travel to places in America, you are immersed in your own, home culture, so everything, although different in location and attractions, is intrinsically the same because the culture is extremely similar. When you go to other countries, there is more of a chance to see different cultures and explore other beliefs and values. You can get more of a sense of what's out there in this vast world of ours, that you've only just begun to explore. I mean, yeah, I'd like to see all the great places here, but I'd like to see elsewhere to, so that I can learn and maybe find new things. It's an Adventure!

10. I have often wondered this, too...once (in high school) we had to write a paper on where we would like to travel & why. I was the only one in the class (of about 30) to say the USA! There is so much to see here - from the Grand Canyon to Niagara Falls to New York City to Los Angeles. But, I think some people want to see where there great grandparents came from (whether that be Germany or Africa), and I can understand that, too.

I still want to drive a convertible on Route 66 - funny thing is, whenever I see a program about someone doing that, everyone else they meet on it is from England, Japan, Germany, etc!

11. I agree, there are many great places to see in the US. However, to explore other cultures requires us to leave the country and see others on THEIR home turf. Very exciting and I hope to do it some day.

12. so they can see what bush is doing thru the eyes of others

13. I could not agree more and this family is staying put on US soil. Too much drama all over the world. Great question by the way!

14. Oh dear. Mustanglynnie....in your list of all the wonderful things to see and do in the States you have listed Niagara Falls. LMAO! This is a perfect example of why americans need to get out of the USA and become a little more culturally aware and learn about the world. Instead you sit in your little American bubble and miss out on so much.
Niagara Falls is in Canada!!!!
Dear me!?!?!?!!
