1. there is a lot more to America than just the coasts. Try the midwest. Chicago, St. Louis, Memphis, Nashville, Indianapolis, in the middle of the country is the real USA, from Minneapolis/St. Paul to New Orleans to Denver to Dallas, Mt. Rushmore, Mississippi River, the Great Lakes, Yellowstone National Park, etc, etc.....

2. Bucks got a good point the midwest is the heart of america where you can explore the countryside and get in touch with nature.The mid west also has several cities and tons of things to do. However if you're interested in culture and variety in all sorts of things The west coast would probably be the best place.The city areas hold a lot of interesting things and interesting people and if you find the cities are to busy or fast the northern part offers several ranches and wineries.

3. There is more to do on the East Coast, because the cities on the East Coast are closer together than they are out west. Washington is 45 minutes from Baltimore which is 90 minutes from Philly which is 90 minutes from New York. There are also the quaint villages in New England and the upstates of New York and Pennsylvania. Because the cities on the East Coast are much older, they are much more walkable as well.
