Military travel help?

I'm trying to find the cheapest tickets to get my son home from San Diego, CA to Columbus, Oh round-trip travelling December, 16 & returning January, 2nd. He is a Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton so his funds are pretty low. Any suggestions? It's hard to find military discounts with airlines from what I've found, or the military rate is as high or higher than regular fares.

1. If there are Air Force installations on both ends, contact the liasions there and see if he could get what's called a "hop" (just riding on a plane that was gonna make the trip anyway). The schedules are not always user friendly, but if it works out, it can be free.

2. Okay so we have had this problem before too. I found a ticket for $338 on SideStep if he leaves through Santa Ana which is in Orange County. Its about the same distance to Santa Ana as San Diego its just north. I don't think I can link you to the results page though. Sorry!
