i'm researching world phones for my trip, begining in Beijing...Price lower in China or U.S.?

I like the Nokia N series a lot--N95, N82, and the n7(something)..and the Nokia 6555....
I also like the Blackberry's......and the MotoKRZR K1........i'm pretty sure they all work on the cdma/gsm networks that i'll need to use while i travel.....any suggestions on good worldphones and providers in china and europe?
eventually i'll probably come back to the U.S. and i'll keep whatever cell i purchase now, but since i won't need service in the U.S. for at least 1 year it would be dumb to purchase a servce plan here.......i'm pretty sure i need to purchase SIM cards from each country to get the phone to work.....ANYONE WHO HAS ANY KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THIS WOULD BE REALLY USEFUL TO ME...
since beijing is my 1st stop and since china is a leading manufacture of goods, would it be cheaper to purchase the phone there? Are there any websites that offer discount/wholesale/crazy cheap worldphones without a service plan?

1. N95 is awesome.
Be very careful when purchasing phones in China,
DO NOT buy from street hawkers for very cheap prices. They are fakes and have the insides changed for cheaper parts.
China will be the cheapest place to purchase a mobile but it pays to pay a little extra and buy one from a respectable establishment with international warranty.
I also have pre paid sim cards from many many different countries also they are the cheapest option as global roaming is a major ripoff.
