Vacation rentals - safe ways to pay?

I'm probably going to rent a vacation condo/villa that is advertised on one of the homeaway (vrbo, etc) websites. What are the "safe" methods to pay? Credit card? Pay Pal?

1. be careful for what you pay for, I think Credit cards is the best

2. Credit card because you can always do a "charge back" if someone tries to scam you.

3. My experience with paypal has been good, using it on ebay and is very safe.
