1. Just take the normal things you take on holiday.
Excursions - everything is relatively cheap but you have to buy a visa at the airport when you land it costs about £15.
If you like to go to the casino they will not accept egyptian money to play ( although they will accept it for drinks ) you must take Sterling , Dollars or Euros.
If you have Sterling make sure it's English £s.
Best buys ? you will have to haggle for everything including taxis , but hey it's all part of the fun.
One last tip buy your excursions in Naama they are a lot cheaper than the hotels.
Enjoy Naama , i loved it.
Nearly forgot , i was looking forward to my trip to the Blue Hole. Avoid it , unless you like diving the place is a midden.
2. You do as usual. Take what you normally take with you when you travel. If you forget anything you will find many shops with all your needs. From there you can make daily trips to Taba, Dahab, Nowebaa, Saint Catherine and Ras Mohamed. You can dive and see the most wonderful underwater life, you can take glass bottom boats. ras Mohamed is especially famous for diving since it has the most wonderful different kinds and colors of fish, plants and coral. Gift shops are full of souvenirs and gifts. you will see a variety not existing anywhere else.
3. you do NOT need a visa unless you are going outside the Sinai peninsular and that includes the ras mohamed park . you will need high factor sun tan lotion it is very hot there,i suggest you take some Imodium for your self. and a mozzie anti itch stuff there are not many mozzies but there a few. excursions include a trip to mount Sinai and the monastery very early in the morning to climb the mountain and watch sunrise i didn't do it so i dont know what its like. a day trip to Cairo ( then you need a visa) to see pyramids and museum. desert trips camel rides quad bikes etc.
but the main thing is the diving and the snorkeling. foods OK mostly seafood cheaper in old town than narrma bay, make sure you bargain for everyhting take duty free booze is expensive, try Stella beer its locally brewed but I'm told OK.best buys probably copies labels
4. It is very hot in sharm at present so just bring lots of shorts, cropped trousers and t-shirts, short sleeve shirts or vest tops, sandals and trainers.
When you arrive in sharm you will have to get a visa at the airport, this is essential when travelling outside of sinai.
I recommend that you book trips with your travel agent or holiday rep, you may save a few pounds booking outside the hotel but not all the co's are covered by insurance.
Depending on the area that you are staying you may need taxis for travelling around, never pay the price you are asked, this does not just apply to taxis this applies to anything you wish to purchase (except trips of course). There are many many excursions to choose from, it depends on how long you are staying as some trips are overnight stays-Cairo and Luxor-both very interesting if you are into ancient history. Others include:- St. Catherines monastery, Ras Mohamed park, Various boat trips, Jeep safari, quad biking, bedquin nights.Oriental night. There are numerous night clubs in naema bay.
You will find off licences in town&old market(drinkies is the most popular, beer per bottle around 60p)Food is cheap too, there are a large variety of restaurants ranging from McDonalds - Traditional.
I hope you find this helpful? Enjoy your trip!
5. I would like to add that apart from light weight clothing bring a hat... preferably one that will shade your neck, a good quality pair of sunglasses, high factor water proofed sun cream, after sun lotion with insect repellent & insect repellent spray!
Keep in the shade as much as possible during 11am & 3.30pm..... sun is at its strongest during this time. Drink bottled water only (you should pay no more than 2Egyptian £'s(le) for 1.5litres) at least 3litres a day.
Sakara is the local beer which, dependent on taste of course,is a nicer beer than stella (I am told by visitors) you can purchase this from any off licence in Naama Bay for 6.5le. Food is cheap & plentiful in the traditional restaurants.... Naama Bay is very cosmopolitan, you will also find Italian, Indian, Chinese & Mexican apart from KFC, Pizza Hut, TGI Fridays, Hard Rock Cafe & McDonalds.
The many excursions have been mentioned by others, you will also find many dive centres here, if you intend to dive then make sure that you use a PADI Instructor.
I note that your traveling alone, I can assure you you will not be alone for too long & will be made welcome immediately & return to boast that you had a wonderful holiday, in a wonderful Country(steeped in history) & made friends with lots of wonderful people!!
Welcome & Have a great holiday..... Dont forget your camera!!
