Any single moms travel long-distance by car with small children? (4,2,1)?

any tips or hints , on making it easier for all 4 of us?

Public Comments

1. bring plenty of snacks and drinks (preferably those that are not easily spilled)...

then hope that theyll fall asleep during the ride... :)

2. you could get them a portable DVD player and bring along some movies that the kids love. Or you could play games on the road like "what do i spy with my little eye". I also think letting them bring a game boy or something like that keeps kids occupied for hours.

3. Ask a relative or friend to go with you. Take some pre-made snacks and drinks with you. Bring a few books and toys. Play car games. Good luck.

4. if u can go at night. if not see if someone can go with you if you don't have a big car rent a bigger car make sure they have plenty of toys i have three kid's and i travel at night so they will sleep all the way there

5. take snacks or drinks that they have never had so it is something that is a "treat" and will keep their attention. Use a kid's CD and have everyone sing along. Don't stop at every beck and call or it will take you forever to get to your destination. They'll eventually realize they can't whine and get you to stop every time they are bored or want something.

6. i drive at night. i have three boys so i keep bottles in the car so when they need to pee i give them a bottle let them pee while i drive.

they do not unbuckle and they don't make a mess

7. well im not a single mother but i can help..we are actually in the process of moving and we drove 18hrs already w/ a 15 month old and we have about 16 more hrs to go (were visiting family) what we did/doing is snacks bring a cooler w/ milk, juice, yogurt so you dont have to keep pulling over to buy drinks/food also try to stop at a few rest stops and let them walk around for about 20mins..what really calms my son down is cd's in the car like laurie berkner (silly kid songs) lullabys (to get them sleepy) or even the curious george soundtrack . also with the older children you can play i-spy..ok im rambling if you need help you can email me

good luck

oh ya bring a big tote bag full of toys

8. your one year old will most likely fall asleep. as for the two and four year old, play games like i see a color you dont see and sing songs and play a rhyming game. i traveled 6 hours with a 2 and 4 year old and believe it or not, it wasn't that bad. Good Luck.
