What to do in the Englewood, Florida area?

My wife and I are travelling to Englewood, Florida May 1-8, 2008 for a vacation. What is there to do in that area? I'd like to see a race if possible (car or motorcycle) and I like outdoor/adventure type activities. I'm willing to drive about 3 hours one way max. Don't suggest Disney World....that's not for me.
I realize it's probably not exactly the "centre of the action" but we're getting a free stay at her parent's condo so....
We will have a rental car to drive to attractions.

3. its very quiet its not to far from orlando and tampa, i will refer daytona if u want to see a race. mostly spring break though its also a little crazy though. you can also google it see what englewood has to offer
