1. Oh no, sorry to hear you had such a horrible experience in China! Next time you travel, maybe try http://viamigo.com/ You can connect with independent tour guides all over, and converse with them before agreeing to go on one of their tours. Also, they can customize the tour to what you want to do, so you don't get stuck on such a terrible trip.

Here's the link to the China tours:

Hope this helps!

2. Sorry to hear this. It is good that you warn people of the bad travel operators.

But not all tour guides in China are like that, and certainly not all of China is like that....

I am especially surprised to hear about your hotel description because in most parts of Asia including China, 5 star hotels are extremely pompous and luxurious. Usually 4-stars in China roughly equates to 5-stars in Australia, for example.

My mother went on a luxury Silk Road trip in China by train a few years ago. And it certainly was VERY luxurious. The train was very luxurious. And they even had a doctor and a nurse on the train to look after people in case they had problems. In some cities and towns, they even had the mayors come out to greet them!! I bet you don't find that in other countries...

3. This is very typical for some low class travel agent in mainland China. It's good to explore them on net, so people can be aware of.

I am not sure about this "Ming Ming", but the HK news has reported the similiar problem about some mainland Chinese travel agent cheating to mainland Chinese for tour package visiting Hong Kong.

Some common cheating issues are:
- very low tour charge, but force tour member to shop in some place with rape off price.
- promising certain rate of hotel and food, but serves junk.
- the route of the tour does not match the description.
These things happen all the time in China if you use some Chinese agent. Even I am a Chinese, I won't consider an agent such as "ming ming" that I have never heard before. I am not sure which agent actually have a good reputation in mainland China.

Hong Kong certainly has good agent such as Wing-On and Hong-Tai with packages to go all over China that has a good reputation for decades. But some events such as bringing people to those tourist shopping certer are typical even with HK's agent, but the difference is that they won't force you to shop.

For a truely luxcury vacation, it is better to use agent such as Cathay Pacific vacation.
