Would you travel this way? Alone?

At a party earlier this PM I was talking to a friend of mine who arranges all kinds of travel. He suggested I might in lieu of flying take a boat (not a cruise ship but a no-frill primarily frieght ship which takes a few passengers) to South America. I am terrified of flying just now, and I really don't feel like a luxury cruise with all the extra expense of having to dress up, etc. I could go with a suitcase or a backpack even. He said there would be a library for reading and opportunity to walk upon the deck and enjoy the sea air. But little more. Does this sound adventurous to you?
Ummm? Why is it that traveling like somebody's elderly aunt sounds less romantic than previously thought?

1. Adventurous yes, but there're so many stories about crimes at sea, because there's not really any jurisdiction.

and everyone hates Americans right now. lol

2. I would do it! Good luck to you!

3. Do it. I have an elderly aunt who traveled like this on a Russian freighter, and she enjoyed it.

4. oh gosh. i think that could be fun. im really scared of the open sea though personally.
i would much rather fly.

lmao @ the elderly aunt comment!!!

5. I would not travel like that, especially alone

6. I would take a privite boat, or I would drive to Florida, and take my uncle's yatch, I love boats, 92 feet is enough for sea travel, that would be some kind of adventure!

7. It does sound adventurous. It may be fun... and I think I'd do it in place of flying as well. I'm terrified of flying... so... lol!

8. I can't answer. I don't mind when I take a flight, but I'm horrified when I have to take a boat, eventhough if it's a small one on the River Seine in Paris!
