how much is student travel?

My 20 year old daughter is a full time college student
She heard that she can get a discount for plane and train travel. someone told her she could go from new york to california for 20 dollars is this true ???

1. I find that hard to believe...especially with gas prices on the rise. There might be some discount on different types of travel but to that extent, probably not. Try STA travel, which focuses on travel for college students.

2. I have never heard of that one. Call some airlines and ask and call some travel agencies and see what they say.

I do know that you can find hidden fees. When I fly from DFW to Cal. it cost more than if I have my flight originates from Missouri, thru DFW and then on to Cal. (the savings is about 1/2 of the normal fee)
If they ask why I didn't actually fly from Missouri, I tell them I had a customer here so I just drove down and picked up the flight at DFW. (you can't check any baggage so I do carry-on or I mail my stuff to my destination 3 days ahead with hotel to hold)

Do your homework and check all avenues.
