Can anyone give me an insight into the discount cards available when travelling to Australia?

Hi Im travellingto Oz later in the year for about 4 months, I have heard there are discount cards available to save some money on hostels travel etc. Are they worth it, Which ones are the best? Is it worth purchasing them from here in the UK or to get them when in Oz? Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

1. There are discount cards from almost any youth hostels and YMCA and backpackers accommodation they can give you info on cheap travel, like the "wicked" camper vans, and where to find some cash-in-hand jobs such as fruit picking etc,or resturant waiting
