Can a single woman travel alone to Saudi Arabia as a tourist ?

I am an American and am planning a trip to the ME, Saudi included.
What is there to see in SA?

Public Comments

1. No, First there is no tourist visa system existing in saudi arabia. Second, any woman wish to visit saudi arabia should accompanied by her husband or her family man in case her visa is being sponsored by them.

2. As an independent tourist? No. Only as part of a tourist group.
The group should consist of not less than five persons, and women in the age of till 30 years should necessarily be accompanied by the husband or one of the relatives.

One local tour company that can offer advice and has an excellent reputation locally is Sadd Al-Samallaghi Est based in Jeddah (www.samallaghi.com).

Must-see:
1-Habalah
This deserted village, a fascinating remnant of old Arabia, is like no place on earth.

2-Madain Saleh
If you can only visit one place in Saudi Arabia, make it Madain Saleh, which rises up from the sands

3-Riyadh
The capital.

4-Jeddah
Most liberal city in Saudi Arabia and one of the best diving spots in the world.

3. I believe the other posters are right and U can not travel as a single woman to KSA. The best way is to travel as part of a tourist group.
U can travel to Dubai though. There U won't need to be part of a tourist group.

Good Luck!

4. Saudi Arabia does not issue tourist visas. You can not enter Saudi Arabia unless you are sponsored by an employer or if you are married by your Saudi husband. Non Muslims are not allowed in Mecca or Medina. You will be deported and or thrown in jail for 6 months for daring to enter the two holy cities in Islam. You can not enter Saudi as a woman alone. You will need the permission of your husband, ex husband, brothers, sons or father and/or be accompanied by one of the above men. Saudi Arabia is not a tourist country.

5. No, she can't. You can't travel alone and you can't get into the country as a tourist without a sponsor.

6. Ghost buster's post is correct... and as some of the other posters dont realize.. Saudi is starting to open their doors slowly to organized tour groups.. You cannot come alone, but yes there are now tour groups coming in.. They are strictly monitored and accompanied, you cannot just venture off on your own once inside this country.. But you are very welcome to come within one of those groups.. and enjoy.. and hopefully take back a positive viewpoint back to your own country to share...

7. Legally- YES
